Just been called in for bloods! *update pg3*

The doctor did my bloods as he was concerned I still have morning sickness. Tested for kidney and thyroid function and also glucose levels. All came back normal. Now the doctor's has just phoned saying he wants me in to test for serotonin and couple of other things (can't remember what the receptionist said). Way to freak out the pregnant lady! It's just bloody pregnancy hormones! The MW wasn't concerned on Monday (when I also had bloods taken again) so why is the doctor all paranoid? I suppose I should be glad he's taking an interest but I don't want to be worried about this and I can't go in until next Thursday so that's ages!

Perhaps just covering his own back? At least they're checking you over though, thats a good thing IMO. Hope it all comes back clear

I know how you feel I've had so many blood tests and wonder if they are all necessary but it's better to be safe than sorry. I waited at hospital for three hours today to be told everything was fine with my bllods. It's a pain but I feel better that it's come back okay. Try not to worry.

My doc did this to me earlier in the pregnancy. I freaked out thinking something was wrong but turned out he just forgot to check some tests off on the original requisition. Hopefully it's nothing and all goes well. Try not too worry!

Just seems random, was weeks ago I got the others done. And why not just test for all these things at once? What does serotonin indicate? My understanding of serotonin is more about mental functioning...

Does seem like an odd thing to test. I tried to find some info for ya but I couldn't find anything that related serotonin to pregnancy. Usually it's tested to diagnose mood disorders.

I thought seritonin was to do with mood and depression...? Sorry I cant help. Hmmmm im sure its all fine and nirmal hun but why not give the midwife a call and say that the doc has freaked you out a bit and can she find out what the tests are actually for. Otherwise you will be driving yourself mad until next thursday

hey hun, it's possible he just wants to check you are getting enough nutrition since you are still sick. However, I think this is a long shot :

""Inadequate calories puts the body in a starvation mode. This induces a rise in blood sugars due to glycogen release by the liver. It also initially stimulates the release of the neurotransmitter seratonin which, unfortunately, is followed by a “crash” -- that is, a "high" or rush followed by an intense deficiency of seratonin, which makes the dieter feel really bad. In addition, it resets the body's caloric thermostat to a lower setting so that the dieter either gains weight or fails to loose weight while restricting themselves to a much lower calorie diet "

Apart from feeling sick you are alright aren't you - and lots of women get ms all the way through the pregnancy. At least they are checking things. Try not to worry (easier said than done I know). *hugs*

I know it must be frustrating hon, but least they are picking up on things even if you get there and it's something not to worry about.

Sure all will be fine x x
