I'm Currently Feeling: | My list of silly questions.... Right, some of you out there a brimming with info and I know zilch!! Nows the time to lend me your words of wisdom. I don't have any kids, neither do my friends and the grandparents are miles away!!....here goes..
1) When the baby sleeps I know you have to keep a certain room temp. Have bought temp. gauge. If the room is at ideal (18-20) how many layers of bedding should you use? Sheets and blankets or just blankets?
2) Do you need to put covers/sheets in the bottom of the pram?
3) At ideal temp (18-20) should the baby wear a bodysuit and then a babygrow on top? Is that enough? I see newborns with hats and blankets indoors too, do they need all that?
4) Should I buy a manual or electric breast pump. (I want OH to be able to feed after a few weeks too). Any recommendations? Will certain brands only fix their own bottles to them?
5) Is it best to get a moses basket that rocks? I have seen some that do and some that stand still...
Feel free to tag on your own silly questions!! I am sure I have lots more yet to come...
Thanks! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | They are so silly with room temp that you give up and just go with your instinct!
Get a pump if you want one, electric would probably be easiest!
My moses basket rocked and I was always afraid it was going to tip over sideways. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Ive always been told that the babys room should be kept warm enough for the baby to sleep with no top blankets or minimal blankets... Just an undershirt and onesie... You can buy onesies which are alot warmer for winter etc that are made with polar fleece.
Dont know about wearing hats to bed, I suppose if it were that cold lol.
Most people on here will agree that the electric pumps seem to be easier if you have to express larger amounts, however, like with breastfeeding it does take practice and a good number of times using one to get the hang of it.
There are also a few people on here who use manual pumps for the odd bottle. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm not sure what the answer to the temperature related questions are - I just went with what I thought was right when I had my first so thats what I'll do again!! I do know that its easier to warm a baby up than cool one down so I'd under dress before over dressing.
I asked the same question in the breastfeeding forum and Medela seem to be the most sought after make. I bought the mini electric pump to see how I get on with it - thats their entry level electric pump and they're about £50 new.

| I was just having a conversation about these types of things with my best friend who has just had a baby. She said that the midwife had told her not to put a hat on in the house / bed as it is the best way a baby can cool down if they get too hot, losing heat through their head!
I can't really help with any other questions, but thanks for asking them, I have suddenly just started thinking about how do you know what you're supposed to do??? Panic! I'm sure you must just go with your instinct! We'll just all have to learn together!!! |

| I didn't even think about bottles attaching to the pumps - that's a good question. I've heard the Medela pumps are great too, and am planning to get an electric one - but now I'm confused!
As for the temperature thing, i'm stressing out that I'm going to overheat the baby with too many layers, but I've also heard the same thing, that it's better to be too cool than too warm. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | About the temp. - when my cousin had her third baby boy,the temp of the room would be perfect and she would cover him with only one blanket. However he would usually move while sleeping and throw the blanket off.
So I'm guessing, that when the room temp is perfect or just slightly warmer one blanket or a tiny sheet is enough.
You don't need to keep the hat on indoors unless it's very cold, and as Ryder said, just one undershirt and onesie (baby grow) is enough.
As for the moses basket,I got the one that doesn't rock,I guess it's down to a personal choice. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | On the temperature stuff, it's funny all the guidelines, when I think of what my Mum's told me of the famously cold winter of '79 when I was born and no-one had central heating and there was ice on the inside of the windows! |
