I'm Currently Feeling: | No you're not mad at all. The cat'll settle in fine I'm sure. Our house was built same time as yours but fortunately we don't seem to have that problem. It could be due to the fact that I've had a rescued semi-feral cat from Cats Protection living in it for 4 years. She's lovely now but still a mouser. To my horror!! Bengals are beautiful. As are Burmese. xxxx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | We have 2 cats and 2 dogs and have had mice. Neither cats are interested - in fact it was the dogs that alerted us to them by sniffing madly under the dishwasher!!!
I really didnt want traps down for the same reasons but they are the only thing that worked for us. They come in from the woods behind our house. If you can get a cat great, but it might not solve the problem. What you need to do is stop them from getting in - thats the hard bit - but going round and checking the outside of your house, piping etc and blocking it all up. Then you just have to catch the ones that are inside till they're all gone otherwise you just end up trapping the ones already in the house and they just breed.
We were lucky they only were in one place. I just had to get over the whole trap thing. I especially would have if they'd gone anywhere near either of the children's rooms.

I'm Currently Feeling: | Not mad at all, get a cat
If you're worried about the cat taking over the nursery, go out and buy some lemon juice that you use on pancakes. Just dowse the babies things in it and the cat wont go near, they HATE lemon juice.
We did it with our little kitten, she took quite a liking to our walls, so we put it on our walls and she's not went near them since. |

| I don't think you're mad either - sounds like a good idea to solve your problem. I'd be upset too with mice droppings in the nursery. good luck x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Sooo pleased for you. If you've had cats before you'll settle him quickly and he'll get used to having the baby there from the start. Its perfect for the mice!! Much better have him around and no filthy mice...yuk!! Let us know if you get him, sounds gorgeous!! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Not the same I know, but when we planted some lettuces and various other veg in our garden, the radishes were getting pulled up and eaten by mice. We have a cat and put some of her fur from her brush in the vegetable beds, and just the smell stopped them from eating our veg. She is useless as a hunting cat, she only chases moths and butterflys and can't even catch them but having a cat in the house can be enough to make the little blighters pack up and move out. The only difficult bit might be keeping the cat in for 6 weeks when you have a new baby? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Like the others have said, not mad at all. Cats are easily the best way to get rid of mice. Though the suggestions to block upholes etc to stock them reinvading are good ones, it sounds to me like you live in a connected row and in old houses your chances are going to be very slim of getting rid of them without a cat! New mice always find their way in.
Don't worry about the bedding. Did you do a boil wash? A hot wash will kill anything you need to worry about (though it might shrink depending what things are made out of!). Hope you like the cat when you meet it! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks lovelies really helped. It will be hard keeping him in when we have a tiny baby. Like everyone said. Its almost impossible to keep mice out of a row cottages that are this old without leaving poison and traps. We have pest contol coming tomorrow and they are going to look its free as part of our bank account emergency home thing. So might as well get them in. They can get through a hole the size of a biro! Ugh. Ive blocked some holes up with brillo pads as apparently thats what you do. Havent seen any mouse poops today.
Yes very nice of hubby - cant believe it - I thought he was looking at porn but it was a cat instead - there is a joke there but im not going to make it! Cant tell you how long the car stand off has gone on but thats very sweet of him - must have been the tears works everytime!
I'll let you know what hes like! LUCYXXX |
