My Birth Plan

I have just printed this out to add to my pregnancy notes and after reading it through I get the feeling that I am being a bit.....erm...... pushy? Dunno if that's the right word but I really want the midwives to know what I want this time, as last time I felt like I was in hell cos one of them was a total cow!

Do you think that they pay attention to birth plans or are they just written up to make us feel more in control?!

Any opinions on this would be really appreciated girlies!!!

BIRTH PLAN FOR ANDREA

• Date Of Birth – 5th August 1978
• My baby’s estimated due date is 1st October 2008
• I would like my partner Neil to be with me the duration of labour and birth
• I don’t mind if there is one student midwife is there but no groups, this includes student Doctors.
• I will have my own music with me to listen to during labour.
• All being well, I would like to have an active birth, walking around as much as possible in the early stages.
• I would also like to try for a water birth if the pool is available.
• I would like to have as little intervention as possible, only having an internal when really needed.
• For pain relief I would like to try Gas and Air, I am trying to avoid an epidural but if I feel I am not coping then I will ask for one, I will also consider an injection of pain relief – Pethidine or Diamorphine.
• I do not want my waters broken artificially unless discussed with me first.
• I do not want an episiotomy unless definitely needed.
• I would like my partner Neil to stay with me throughout the birth but in no way encouraged to look “down there” at progress during delivery.
• I would like to be talked through delivery and told when to pant, and push as I would like to avoid a tear this time.
• All being well with my baby, I would like her to be handed straight to me and be allowed to have some quiet time with her and Neil as soon as is possible.
• I don’t mind having an injection to help deliver the placenta.
• I would like my partner Neil to be offered to cut the cord but he is unsure about it so if he says no that’s fine, please do not pressure him.

I think its good that you know what your want! I would prefer the doctors knowing what i want rather than them doing what they want! Come to think of it I should get one done!

Thats pretty much what mine says. I also put on it that I plan on breastfeeding asap.
I can't think of anything else you missed other then that. Formula or breast.

Think it's fine hon, I agree with wendino to add your feeding preference. Think it's good to list what you want. Not only that I am sure that the last thing that you want is to have questions fired at you whilst delivering your baby.

Mine is very simular to yours. x

All sounds reasonble! It's what you want, why not pen it all out for them to see?

We don't have birth plans over here
