New and confused

Hiya all

I'm new here, just joined today. I already need help lol

I'm Anna by the way

I'm firstly confused with dates, my 12 week dating scan was hard for the scanner to see (body habitus) and they gave me a date of 16th November,
Then I went for a 4D scan a week ago and it was very clear, they have baby measuring bigger due 7th November. So which do I aim for?

Also I have measured bump and I'm only measuring 21cm and I should be at least 27 if not nearly 29 (depending on dates). I am considering ringing the day unit to see if I can see someone as its really bothering me, can I do that

sorry this little man is my first and I am totally lost

Thanks for any help

Anna

Do you have a midwife? You should have been seeing her by now, who would have measured your bump properly. You shouldn't do it yourself, because you can't relax your abdomen and uterus properly and will get an inaccurate reading. She will also tell you which date to go off.
If not, ring your day unit (I assume it is in a hospital?) and they should be able to advise.
And lastly - Congratulations, good luck and welcome to the forum!!!!

I wouldn't worry about your bump unless a MW measured it at 21, then you should get it checked out. Any more of less of 3cm either side of gestiation can be a worrying factor to babies growth.
But as kat said, you can easily get it wrong.
As for the scans. I wouldn't think much of it until you see the MW and find out. As 12 week scan is most accurate.

Hi

yes I have a midwife (and I use the term lightly!) she has never measured me unfortunatly, just passed the comment that I will need growth scans!! didnt say anything else, and I dont get to see her again till 10th September which is a six week gap.

We dont exactly see eye to eye, as I wont breast feed and shes very pushy about it,

so I'm a bit on my own (well have dh but hes clueless lol)

Can you not request another midwife? It doesn't sound ike you are receiving the care that you shuld be, especially at this stage.

well I ahve called the day unit, they cant help as its not a midwifes measurement of me, luckily I have called our local childrens centre and they are having a midwfe drop in today and I'm going to go to that.

Also been able to arrange to see my consultant tomorrow instead of next week, so as long as I stop worrying I should have some answers soon

You're notes will show your agreed EDD. If you have a private scan they dont tend to move the date. They will go off your 12 wk scan and then will only move it if your 20 wk scan is more than a week different either way. The bottom line is your EDD only really becomes relevant now if you go over - you'll have had all the tests etc.

As Kat said you cant measure yourself as your muscles wont relax properly. Go to the drop in and see what they say. Fundal measurement is not always 100% accurate when used on its own.

Ps - I'm in West Yorks too!!
