Question

Castor oil

Ive tried loads the last few days to help my LO along the way but nothing seems to have worked

My MIL is absolutely adamant that castor oil would work as it brought on all 3 of her labours and all 7 of her mums labours. I was quite happy to try it.... until I googled it and heard all sorts of horror stories. Although there were some success stories too. Lots of friends and relatives have tried it and the vast majority have said it works but im unsure.

So, just wondered if anyone had tried it, and if it worked? Also is it dangerous for baby? As much as I want her to come out, I definitely wouldnt risk her health in any way

DONT DO IT!!!!

I tried it with callum as like you loadsa people said it worked for them. well i was stuck on the toilet for an hour (well probably not that long but felt like it). i took some on the saturday nite and i did go into labour not sure whether that was the castor oil or the fact i was 8 days over anyway. but callum had pooed in the womb (which castor oil can cause) and i had to be monitored all through my labour.

No way please dont do it

I think you should wait, ur not even 40 weeks yet and baby will come when ready, I tried caster oil with my daughter when she was 3 days overdue and I ended up in the toilet in the middle of the night with the worst stomach cramps ever but no labour, I tried everything to bring it on but she came when she was ready when 5 days overdue

I think if u rang the midwife she wouldnt be very happy about it as they dont recommend it and I have heard that if a pregnant woman goes to the chemist asking for caster oil they wont sell it to them

Oh no, please dont do caster oil, i had that with my first and yeah, it started labour, but my labour went all wrong and i had an emergency c-section, im not saying it was that that did it, but i would never do it again, just in case.
Better to try some of the natural things instead, go and buy some chillys or something, lol.

Castor oil is used as a laxative here, most women take it before they go into labour to help clean themselves out of bowel matter. So that they dont end up pooping when giving birth. You can buy it off the shelf here.

I've never heard of people using it to induce labour though.
