I prefer to think that the reason names keep coming up in the top ten is more because the stand the test of time. My daughter is Emily and while its popular, I dont think its 'common'.

With this one we picked Harry for a boy and Hebe for a girl. One 'popular' name and one unusual. Both were picked simply because we'd heard thema and liked them in much the same way Emily was picked.

We've both decided on Sophia, it's a name I have liked for a long time and I'm just glad that hubby likes it too. We would have chosen Sophia regardless of it's popularity or lack of popularity. I keep getting told that Sophie is becoming more popular at the moment but not so much Sophia.

i always wanted a welsh name for my kids, as i hated the fact mine was so popluar there were 4 Lisa's in my class grrrr.. the most popular welsh girl name for last couple of years has been Angharad (an-g-harad) there's a few Ffions around and megans but i only know one other Rhiannon...and Emily was after OH's nanna...
for the next one if its a boy i want Osian (osh-an) and if its a girl im stuck as Rhiannons the only one i like lol...

We chose our names as soon as we started TTC (after family members). Luckily none of them were in the top 10 or else we'd have changed them. We want to avoid the whole "having 20 kids in the same class with the same name" scenario too. I'm just glad Molly is quite popular but not totally common, lol.

At first i just picked my names and that was that ... then i saw a couple of them keep cropping up all the time so ive scrapped them.

I'd prefer mini pp to be one of perhaps two at school with the same name rather than one of five or six.

Same over here. I picked out Ava because I fell in love with it and didn't know any Ava's.. now loads of people around the place are calling their daughters Ava. My Mum's friends daughter has just found out she's having a girl and she's calling her... yep, Ava. It hasn't put me off the name though although I like to point out I chose it first Mine will be born first anyhow so she's the copycat. Hmph.
We are going for Ava too but Ava Grace !! Its a lovely name

OH and myself have looked at name lists to avoid the really popular ones. We didn't have any names in mind so it didn't hurt to rule out done of the really fashionable ones. Most if the top ten names are lovely but its a nightmare at school when you have 3 other people with your name, so boring! Hubby feels really strongly about it coz he has really common name! I have a niece and two friends babies who are all called ella, all born in last 6 weeks! Gets confusing!!
