Being induced - does it work every time?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant today and the doctor said the baby will be too big if i wait until 40 weeks and his head's nto engaged yet, so i was induced. This is my first pregnancy and i'm wondering if this works every time? Anyone has same experience please share? And how many days will you be in labour after being induced?
Thanks

Induced usually means gel and then drip.

Gel can usually start you off, but most women find all it does is soften the cervix, and then the drip is used to finish it off.

But as far as I'm aware, by what you've said, they're setting out to start off your labour, so look forward to seeing your little one xx

Hi

I'm not positive but ti think it depends on what induction method is used. Think a sweep is the 1st stage to break mebranes. I also think that the lenght of time depends on you personally but this is just goin off other threads n stuff i've read. Sending you some labour

Hi I was induced 1.5 weeks ago. I had the gel inserted to start me off. They will do that and leave it for 6 hours, if labour hasnt fully got going they will insert another one. They will do this 3 times if needed. If the gel doesnt work they will use a hormone drip. I was told this doesnt have to be used too often, I had one lot of gel and I was away! Got pains almost immediately. I had the gel at 10am on the tuesday, at 4pm had internal and was 3cm dilated so they decided not to give me more gel- they say usually you need one or two doses. Contractions were getting stronger so I was left to carry on naturally. At 7pm I was 4cm dilated and in a lot of pain every 5 minutes they decided to break my waters to get Chloe at 01:33 on the wednesday.

I'm not going to pretend it wasnt scary but it was ok, not nice not know ing what to expect. If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me if you llike, its all still very fresh in my mind!!

same here-three sweeps and nothing... Sweeps are not really induction-gel, and pitocin is... If you get them to break your water first it might put you into labour more quickly...

If the sweep doesn't work within this wednesday i will call the doctor for the next option, maybe get them to break the water is a good idea. i reall want to have natural birth. if i;m induced i can still do that ,right?

You still have a natural birth, they just get your contractions started
