To sweep or not to sweep?

good morning everyone.

ive got the midwife this afternoon and was just thinking wether or not to ask the midwife if she will do me a sweep.

by my dates(midwife said are more accreate as in my 2nd scan baby was measuring closer to my dates) im 4 days overdue today but by my 1st scan date im only 1 day overdue.

i cant decide if i want one or not.

hubbys parents are coming down on sunday afternoon instead of this afternoon.

but now im thinking i would rather have baby still in me than out,as i dont want to be in labour while they are here.

if i have a sweep today how likely will it be that baby comes while they are here.

Oh i just wish i didnt have to feel like this baby needs to come before such a date but im not gonna feel comfortable with his parents being here while im in labour,i think they will be too over the top.

Recently all of my threads have been ranting on about his bloody parents, arrh

Have it done, try getting that baby out of you, if you dnt chances are the baby will come when the in-laws are there. Cant believe they would be that inconsiderate to be there when you are due. Do anything you can to have the baby asap. I know i would.

I forgot to say hubbys mum has always said that this baby is a girl and will be born on the 4th august.

im so desprete to prove her wrong but if i do have a sweep will it be more likely that baby comes on the 4th.

I'm not 100%, but from what I've read a membrane sweep increases the liklehood that labour will start within 48 hours. Get it done this afternoon and you may be in labour by tonight or tomorrow if you're lucky.

Yeah, if anythings going to happen it usually starts within the 48 hours after the sweep, although for most people its within 24 hours..Have the sweep, then go home n do the deed with hubby! Good luck x

Sometimes sweeps dont end up moving things along at all. I had a sweep at 3 in the afternoon and had given birth by 11 that night. But I think it's different for everyone. I would advise going for it anyway if you want your baby out, can't hurt to try. I wouldn't worry about it coming when your in laws are there, when bubs wants to come, it'll come. And I wouldn't worry about being uncomfortable getting it done in front of your hubby either. He'll be seeing you in a lot worse state once labour starts and when you actually give birth! Hope it happens for you soon x

Have the sweep if your m/w agrees to it. You've got nothing to lose after all.

This may sound daft but can you do the do with hubby after a sweep?

hey the good thing about having the sweep is that it wont do anything if baby is not ready to come. i had three and nothing happened, while my best friend had one, and had her baby the next day. good luck, hope your mw will do it for you!
