Has anyone tried Castor Oil to induce Labour?

Ok, I know this is not advised practice as it can cause many problems during pregnancy however i was just wandering if anyone had actually tried taking castor oil to induce labour and if so what were the effects?

I have friends who have taken it and labour has started within hours but i would be to scared to even try it!
Its just a question! Im not considering it!
Thankyou
xx

I've only just heard of this. My SILs friend did it for her first and she came pretty much immediately! But I've heard it can make the baby poo and cause all sorts of complications.

Your right! It can cause lots of problems like fetal distress, causing meconium which can be fatal to the baby.
The way it works is by causing abdominal cramping and diarrhea, therefore stimulating the uterus and producing prostaglandins, so in theory i can understand why people would try it, however it wont be an option for me!
i was just curious!

Goodness, I tried it many, many years ago when I was not pregnant and suffering from bowel problems before I was diagnosed with having IBS.

It was the worst thing I ever tried and never, ever did it again let alone for labour purposes.

I did it for baby#2 when we were 8 days over due and it was the worst experience ever. I had the worst cramping and pain and diarhea and it did not start labour. I have never been so sorry to make a choice like that.

DONT DO IT, PLEASE You will regret it for sure.

My best friend tried this and she advised me to NEVER EVER do it. It didn't bring on labour but she spent lengthy amounts of time in the bathroom. She said it was an awful experience.
