i think you will when mine broke they gushed out and was quiet surprised thought someone had thrown water over me while laying in bed. but sometimes they just trickle but again you should be able to tell as it is something you cant control.

A "wee" accident! lol

Mrs N I think if you're standing up the baby's head can act as a dam and keep them in so you may be more likely to get a gush ifyou're sat or laid down. Not sure though......sorry

when my waters broke, i was laid in bed, at 2.45am and i heard 2 popping noises. i felt down but felt nothing so decided to get up and go to the toilet, and by the time i had gone a couple of steps i was soaked and had to run!! There was loads of mucus - my plug - and the water kept coming a while.
I was exactly like u, thinking i wouldnt know, but believe me ....you do!!

In my prenatal class I was told they can come gushing out and you will definitely notice, or it can just start to trickle down and you might think it's just pee that you can't hold in. If the latter happens, we were told to sit on the toilet and check if you can control the flow with your pelvic floor muscles. If you can, it's pee. If not, it's your waters. If you're still not sure, you can wash your hand and touch your bits....and then sniff it. (I know!) If there's a smell, it's pee. If it's odourless, it's your waters.

Also, sounds like you guys in Europe have much more relaxed instructions on what to do if your waters do break. I've seen people telling they've been getting ready slowly and driving to the hospital etc. Even calling the hospital and told to stay at home for a few hours!

Here this is what we're told to do if the waters break:
1. Check the time (the doctor will need to know this)
2. Lie down
3. Call for help/ambulance
4. Get to the hospital, but do NOT drive or even stand up. Get someone to carry you to the car/ambulance.

The reason why you're not supposed to walk or stand apparently is that there is a chance the cord might slip down following the water and cause complications.

Not sure if they're just being extra cautious here but just though I'd share in case!

They don't always break though - mine were broken in hospital after over 2 days of irregular contractions.
