Only way i can describe contractions is they are very strong pains that feel like period pains and tightenings that get stronger and stronger through the contraction. At first they last for a very short time but they start getting more close togther and more painful lasting alot longer. I never had braxton hicks and if it wasent for my show i wouldnt have known they were contractions at first! Have you lost your bloody show? They say you should go into labour 48hours after it... (i had my baby girl 12hrs after my show).
When you are so far gone in labour you dont really get a break in between the pains and it is constant but that is when the pain is absolutly painful that you cant talk or smile and you feel like your going to die!! (sorry girls!!)
Hope this answers your question.

Good luck on the appointment today, hopefully the doctor can shed some light on what's happening for you.

You haven't had braxton hicks? I don't find them ALL that bad actually. Do you get ANY cramping?

Lol, I feel like a freak now. Twice i've had what felt like period pains, first time it lasted 5-10mins and the second 2-3mins. I thought thats what braxton hicks were but someone said they were too long. Aside from that i've had nothing.

My contractions for the first day just felt like period pains that came and went and got more and more painful (the first ones lasted about 30 seconds and would come every 15-20 minutes). By then my bump felt so huge and tight anyway that I didn't feel it hardening...although when I finally went into hospital they said it was 'tightening nicely' (there was nothing 'nice' about it as far as I was concerned ) x

Doctor said he doesn't think baby is engaging yet but I am dropping.. he said baby doesn't have to be fully engaged to drop, he won't check me for dialation until week 39ish.
Said even though I lost my plug I might be pregnant still for a couple weeks.. I feel like it's only going to be a week or so though, hoping that's all anyway!

That's what I feel all the time, it's horrible I find myself doing labour workouts and pacing around like mad! Not to mention popping about 3 tums trying to settle my stomach!
