37 Weeks not full term?

I was told from my midwife that if i go before i am 38 weeks the baby will be classed as premature the reason behind this was i wanted a water birth in the midwife led unit at my hospital and she said that there are a few restrictions on water births but as long as i'm full term ie anywhere between 38-42 wks and am 5cm dilated that it shouldn't be a problem but if i go earlier i will have to be under consultant care as the baby will be premature and will not be allowed a water birth as it's a different part of the hospital (just a set of double doors seperating it but hey it's their rules). I just thought i best post this as i've read a few posts lately about being full term at 37 wks so i'd ask your midwifes before running out for a hot curry just to be safe!

Not sure cause if you google it you get a mixed response aswell, another thing that's in the grey area i think. Sometimes wish it would be a lot clearer for all as if i do go 37wks and i'm not allowed a water birth i won't be to impressed if it's just the hospital policy. I think i may look into this one!

I plan on a water birth at a birthing centre as well and I've been told by the centre that they'll take me between 37 and 42 weeks, so it may be a policy issue.

I totally agree i went up to hospital for a slight bleed back when i was about 26 wks and the doc said don't worry about coming in for your Anti d injection as you are having one now so i agreed then when i told my midwife she went barmy and made me remake the appointment when i got to the appointmnet the nurse giving me the injection said that the doc had no right saying that and wanted his name but as he was the only American it was easy to point him out but again so much confusion there should be a set government standard that they all stick to rather than it being different by hospital.

couldn't agree more! i have actually gained most of my knowledge from the internet, friends and forums like baby and bump. i get told different things where ever i go. really bad mood today.........have to wait in for midwife again today to check bp and of course i wasn't told if it would be morning or afternoon. i also need to see the consultant ob next week to know if i will be getting induced or not.
