I'm Currently Feeling: | Strep B Testing via NHS Hi Girls
Just thought I'd share this with anyone thinking about having Strep B testing.
There are a number of private companies who will do this for you - they send you a pack and you have the swabs taken then send them to their labs for analysis - the ones I've seen have been about £35 - £40.
I just rang my m/w to ask if this was available on the NHS and she said that my area have just started covering this testing but you do have to pay £20.
So I've got to order the swab pack from my hospital at 33/34 weeks and arrange for my m/w or nurse to take the swabs at 35-37 wks and thats it!!
It might not be the case everywhere but its worth a phone call - could save you a few quid!!!

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hope she's ok.
I think for the sake of twenty quid it sounds worth it. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Oh,I hope she'll be ok...poor little girl.
Yes,Ann-Marie,my doctor told me that everyone should have the test with the exception of people who tested positive with their first pregnancy.
It is a really simple procedure, and very easily treatable if you test positive.
The consequences can,as Fifi said,be really bad, sometimes even permanant.
It's definitely worth it...
Thanks for the tip Lisa! |
