I don't think you can really tell for sure without a scan. But, mine was breech they said, and I felt most of her movement way down low in my belly. Then I had an alien moment, and at the next appt, they said she was head down. Now I feel most of her movement at the top of my belly. And the movement at the top is the most active- kicks, bumps, feet sweeping by, several movements in different directions. When I feel movement down low now, it's not as frequent, it's not as "active," and it feels more like one solid mass sweeping across. Also at my last appt, my mw showed me how to feel the baby- at the top is a slightly softer, bigger, round mass (the bottom) and down low you can feel a smaller, harder mass (the head). On my right side she felt softer (belly) and on the left side felt firmer (back). She probably shouldn't have shown me that, because now I have fun grabbing her bottom and giving it a squeeze
