36 week 3 day appoinment :(

saw midwife yesterday, she's coming to see me again tomorrow, because there's protein in wee(Never has been there before), blood pressure is up, (never has been before), and feet are massively swollen. she says there's nothing to worry about, but if she comes and these things are the same, blood will have to be taken.i didn't think to ask why?! what could this be, what is the blood for? what might happen then? any thoughts ladies?

Usually protein in your urine and high blood pressure are indicators of a condition you can develop later in pregnancy call preeclampsia. I know that it can potentially be dangerous to you and babe...However, I have heard that you can have protein in your urine and high blood pressure and not have preeclampsia...that is probably what the blood work is for...

Hope that helped a bit....Also, my advice because I am worry wart...DO NOT GO GOOGLE PREECLAMPSIA!! you will just get tons of BAD stories etc. Wait until you get for sure results from your MW

thank you for your advice! particularly about googling...it's not a good idea, is it? i'm just wondering what would happen if they found stuff to suggest PE in blood work what do they do? also does the midwife do the blood, or do you go to drs or hospital?

Good luck when you see your MW again. I've always had a trace amount of protein in my urine--it doesn't always signal preeclampsia, but can. It's good that your MW is keeping on top of everything and being so thorough. Let us know how it goes.

i know how you feel! i have hight blood pressure and protein in my urine! i went to the clinic on friday and they did all the blood to determine if i had pre eclepsia and all the bloods came back as normal. not sure what is causing the high blood pressure or protein in urine. i am fed up though. just want to have the baby!

hope you feel better soon.

Christine

It does definitely sound like you may have the beginnings of preeclampsia, but there are many people who can hold off preeclampsia for quite a long time, some even for the duration of their pregnancy. I know, I'm one of them! (So far, I've held it off for 4+ weeks).

If the protein in your urine goes over 300, then you have mild PreE. If it goes over 5000, then you would have severe PE. Mine has been hovering between 180 and 260 for the past 3 weeks and has actually been going down. Still have the severe hypertension though (for which I'm on strict bedrest).

As for the swelling, just keep your feet up (above your heart), try and reduce your sodium intake, and just relax.

i think it's really god how they monitor you so closely here, i felt like i asked too many questions in my early pregnancy, she always looked like she ws lock watching!! now she's willing to do house visits ona sunday morning and sit with me for an hour, even accepting a cup of tea!! what are the outcomes of this PE? (I've solemnly promised MW i will NOT google it!)
