I'm Currently Feeling: | Question about epidurals I was just wondering if you have a long labour and have an epidural does it wear off or do you top it up?
I've heard stories of people who have had an epidural once they got to 3/4cm dilated but then the labour carried on for hours after that and the epidural began to wear off by the time it came to push. I want an epidural not just for contractions but for pushing too because I want to enjoy the experience, not be screaming and crying all the way through it so am I able to get it topped up when if it starts to wear off or do I just have to make the most of it before it goes? lol
Anyone? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | they top it up until they are happy you are going to need to push. Labour will be very very hard and prolonged which isnt good for the baby if it isnt worn off somewhat. You wont be able to push if you are all topped up! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | They totally give you boluses to keep it going, but yea, they stop it when it's time to push. I sure hope yours works for you! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Mine was topped up throughout my labour. Kinda weird because it makes your back go all cold and funny. Lol

I'm Currently Feeling: | it still has an effect when pushing, providing it hasnt completely worn off. It all depends how good their guesstimates on how long you are going to take are. |
