just a moan, sorry

hey, i just needed a little moan lol
im 33weeks pregnant, so cant work anymore due to health problems
im living off my savings (which is getting low due to baby stuff, and solicitor fees), gettin no help from the baby's father, or any benefits. and as i havent worked enough cant get maternity leave or pay
that annoyed me enough, but then today i got a message from my friend who is also pregnant but 4 weeks behind me, she doesnt work and neither does her partner, they have their rent paid, and should be gettin a 2bed house soon. they recieved the sure start maternity grant, both get income support, she gets free antenal classes, and baby massage classes, and also free physio. (i cant have any of these, as being 20im classed to old for the free young parents class i signed up for, now its too late to get anything else )
but then she complains as she has no savings, nothing at all ready for baby (not even basic clothes :-/) and has spent all the maternity grant money o fags and clothes for her and her partner, and is making it out like i have it easy and should be helping her :O
sorry this is so long, i jut needed to get it out my head or ill end up stressed all day lol

You should qualify for maternity allowance and a surestart maternity grant if you are a lone parent. Have you contacted the benefits agency?

The likelyhood is that you will get lots of help, you have to ask though. Tax credits give me about £700 per year and I get child benefit for my other son. But I also work. If you have been put on mat leave on medical grounds and are a lone parent then you should be entitled to it.

My friend had been working two weeks (straight out of Uni too) and she discovered that she was pregnant. She got Maternity Pay.

Look in to it hun,

Redhorse xxxx

Thats annoying, some folk dont realise how easy they get things. I always thought that what you work for makes it more worthwhile but whilst I dont understand how much pressure you are under I can only imagine how hard it is to watch someone get life on a plate and still find time to make you feel rotten! Just concentrate on you and the baby and leave the scroungers to it! Hopefully they get a wake up call when the baby arrives, x

Aww that's brill. If you don't have alot of savings e.g. under £5000 I think they discount that anyway. They'll probably ask for copies of your wages slips for the period you have worked.

Contact Tax credits too. They will send you a claim pack ready for when bubs comes along. If you have to go back to work they'll pay 80% of your childcare.

Good luck mate!

I have no idea how things work where you live, but I live in Canada and there are so many resources available through the government to help and it sounds like you have been able to find one I hope everything works out for you.. And I know exactly how you feel.. But you'll feel better knowing that you were the one that gave your child everything they needed, even if it was all on your own.. Children appreciate strong responsible parents Good luck hun!!

Hi there

You should really call jobcentreplus and make sure that your not entitled to maternity allowance through them. I left the uk last year to be with my husband abroad and used all my savings setting that up. I was working 3 jobs before I left and I didnt think I would be entitled to anything when I came back. I really didnt want to go down the route of being on benefits and was suprised when she said I might qualify for that seeing as I worked some of last year. Sorry I hope this makes sense. All I had to of done is made over £30 a week for 26 weeks of a 66 week test period. You should really give them a call just to see and they will send the forms for you. Im 31 weeks pregnant now and going to work for 9 weeks at a supermarket on the till. Its a bit of a step down from what I was used to but its enough to see me through until maternity comes through plus I can sit or stand and its not exactly hard work. Maybe not an option for you but Ive found it really good for me.
You should also see the CSA about your babies dad paying something towards his child. Even if its nappies and formula everyweek its better than nothing. Dont get too stressed about it, you will always have people who expect everything to be handed to them on a plate.
Take care hun

sorry to say this but she's selfish putting her addiction before her own baby and she doesn't appriciate what she has. How can she be a good mother if she doesn;t think how the cigarette will effect her baby's health.
Me and OH also have money problem at the moment, but that's another story.
i hope you get solution for your situation
