I'm Currently Feeling: | Bumper Pads.. Are they safe? I just brought home my crib and the bedding that I bought which includes the fitted sheet for the mattress, a quilt and the bumper pads that line the inside crib. I have been hearing a few things about the bumper pads. Some people are saying that they're safe, while others are saying that they should not be used because they can suffocate baby etc.?? I'm not sure because I can't see a newborn moving around and potentially suffocating with bumper pads.. And I used them with my first and she was fine. I just want to make sure that I'm making the best decision and not potentially putting my baby at risk... |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I always assumed there were risky. Babies can move around after a few months and get tangled up in them or have their faces up against them and suffocate. I found this article http://www.sidsalliance.org/PDFs/BumperArticle.pdf Maybe it can help you make your own decision about them. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I've not bothered with a bumper i think there mainly for decoration, at each end of my cot the pieces are solid wood (not bars) so i think it looks nice without one. I think there ok safety wise as long as you have fitted it correctly and removed it by the time they can move around on there own, so they don't get caught up in it.
The quilt you get in these packs of bedding tho, you can't use until babies 12 months i think, i'd check what the packaging says. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | My OH nearly suffocated as a child on one. Not sure how old he was. I was advised when buying mine to remove it until baby is one. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | while baby doesnt move a lot it's fine, after then it seems that there are lots of opinions.
I decided against one. Just in case. The bars of the cot are no danger. But plenty of people use them i suppose. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | i used them with my first and he is fine infact i used two and put them all round the cot only tied at the top no ties at the bottom half, and this was because he kept putting his legs thru and screaming when they got stuck! iv removed bumpers now because he would use them to try climb out the cot, he still puts his legs thru and gets them stuck grrr, i see it as if a baby is capable of rolling into the bumpers they are capable of rolling away from them to |
