Can I ask a silly question...?!!

You know when you're counting LO's movements each day, do hiccups count as movements?!!!

Only, I haven't felt Beany move much the last couple of days, she really seems to have slowed down a lot. I mentioned it to the MW yesterday, and she said as long as I'm still getting 10 movements by about 6pm then that's fine....

.....I hadn't felt her move yet today until a couple of minutes ago when I could feel what I can only describe as a light jolty movement inside around the level of my pelvis (and I know from yesterday she's head down) which I assumed were hiccups! Never felt them before!!

So do I count that towards her movements for the day or not?

When I go to get monitered baby always seems to get the hiccups, I asked the midwife and she said dont count it as an actual movement each hiccup unless the baby moves with it, she said its a good thing though if baby hiccups as it normally signals healthy xx

I'm not sure myself, I've only felt hiccups once though, and I have to say that I'm not the greatest at counting movements. As long as I've felt movement throughout the day I'm usually pretty okay with it.

i was told at the delivery suite that you should have 10 movements in a 12 hour period and if you get lots together only count that as 1 and hiccups don't count. they also said to sit down away from noise and have a really cold glass of water and just sit and chill for an hour and beanie should give movement if still no movement after this contact the delivery suite i didn't know this until i went up there, hope it helps x

i've never been told to count either. I have noticed beanie does go through quiet times and then gets really active. Beanie has been really active for the past few days and I remember at the start of week 29 I hardly felt beanie move all day - to the point I was really worried.

I am going to ask my midwife about this also (another question!). I also haven't felt beanie having hiccups - well not that I know of! I am getting lots of movements at the top of my bump in these days.

I always think if you feel beanie move then beanie is okay as movements to tend to vary....

I was told 10 movements in 4 hours during the baby's most active time but hiccups do not count. And babies have lazy days, just like we do

My Dr said that the hiccups (as a whole...one session of hiccups) counts as a movement...said that if the baby was hiccupping it was obviously alive and moving.

Well, the little madam has had me worried today as I hadn't felt anything since the hiccups this morning (which is not like her at all!!)...

....until about 10 mins ago, when she had a mad 5 minutes and was boogying away in there!!

PHEW!!!

Still not convinced she's maybe moving enough, but I'll see how she goes the rest of tonight... and if I'm still worried tomorrow, I'll call the hospital. We're going up there tomorrow night anyway for our first antenatal class!

Thanks everyone!
