I don't understand!!!!

Hi everyone

Got back form my 31 week scan - not such a nice experience.
The doc I had is very difficult to understand but was very nice.

He checked that she actually has girly bits and yes she has, so now I can unpack the pink clothes and take the labels off (at least that's something)

Then he told me that she is small and not measuring right. Something about the bottom of the lines on the chart. So he wants me to go for a growth scan but at 37 WEEKS!
Why is he making me wait so long to seeif she's caught up? Surely he would want to check earlier? I just don't understand. He then explained that I might not be able to have the baby at the MW unit as I may need all the MACHINES AND SUPPORT at the hospital!

This totally freaked me out!! The MW thought that maybe he was being a little awkward as I wanted to have the baby at the MW led unit not the hospital!

I'm so confused - should I be worried or should I ask for an earlier scan?

xx xx

I think growth scans are usually done at that time, cause they give them a chance to catch up. I had one done at 36 weeks.
At that time if the baby is still measuring small they can look at possible reasons why and decide whether it is in the baby's interest to stay in or come out.
Sometimes I think though that they are a bit overprecautious when speaking about small babies and speaking about machines and stuff at this stage is not very reassuring when they've already mentioned the size, which obviously you'll be worrying about. Hopefully your LO will catch up cause they all grow at different rates and some people just don't have big babies. xx

Remember the bottom line means smaller than most for that gestation, but in a few weeks your baby could've had a growth spurt.

Maybe seek a second opinion about getting another growth scan to check that she is still on the bottom line or higher. I do think that it seems a long time to wait to check she is growing properly. Aren't they normally done 2 weeks apart? I think bigbelly is about the same number of weeks as you and is having another in a few weeks to check her baby is off the bottom line.

My Lo was was under the small average baby line at 29 weeks, but by 33, he was on the average and had caught up!

It is nothing to worry yourself over too much. If your doc was really concerned, he would have arranged an earlier scan.
