Pre-washing reusable nappies??

Do you have to pre wash reusable nappies??

I've washed and ironed (Sad) all of her clothes and bedding, then the nappies came today... and wondered do you pre wash them?

And am i right that you don't use fabric softner?

How many newborn size nappies (reusable) ones should i buy? I've got five Kushies ultra, obviously i need more than that!

ALso, do i need a nappy bucket, and special cleanser??? help, this started off as a really simple question...now my brain's gone into over drive!!!!!!!

yes you do need to prewash, should say on care instructions. Some say 5 some say 10. I nappy bucket and mesh net is a good idea coz it keeps dirty ones together and smells contained and you can just chuck net in wash without rehandling dirty ones.xx

Good advice girls!! how many more do you think i should buy? i'll bung them in the washer now! and then i'll go into town...special mission: buy nappy bucket!! any excuse to go shopping! my other half thinks that i'm so organised, sterilising stuff and washing it! it's just soemthing i like to do, like being prepared isn't it, makes the reality of it dawn!!!! aqua, my friend's just had a baby and i have seen what the nappies look like, i may also shelve the reusables and swap to disposable! depends on how strong my stomach is..

I bought 4 dozen of the harrington terry towelling flat nappies as they are a better quality and thicker than the mothercare or boots ones.
They say wash them 2-3 times beforehand without fabric softner but to be honest on the last wash i used fairy softner as before they were a little harsh.
My mum used them with 5 babies and she said she used to use softner all the time on them and the same set lasted about 7 years and almost 3 decades later she still uses them as hair towels!!
The trick also is when you put them on the line dont put them out in the hot hot hot sun, try to dry them before 11am or after 3-4pm. The hot sun can make them go dingey in colour and rigid/harsh..

I went for the flat ones as i couldnt decide on what shaped nappies to buy from all the choice so am just using flats, liners and waterproof pants. They are 60cm square so will do until potty training hopefully but have lots of disposables for newborn as have to get the hang of them and might be a bit bulky at first.

I found this website really helpful....
www.thenappylady.co.uk

hhhmmmm i just tried to find the site but it doesnt work.
It had all the folds you need to know etc maybe she is having trouble with the website.
