Food.....

As I posted elsewhere, I have gained 5.5 stone during this pregnancy. Finally, I have been put on the right dose of thyroxine for my thyroid condition and feel I have more energy during this trimester than the last two.

Now, I am having another problem. For two weeks, I have totally lost my appetite and have to force myself to eat. Last night, I had a vegetable wrap (hummous and lots of raw vegetables), but it took me 30 minutes to force it down me. Daily, eating my evening meal is a chore. One day I took a bite out of my dinner and that was all I could manage. All I had that day was a yoghurt and some fruit. I just now ate a pear for breakfast and feel full. I doubt I will be able to eat anything more than that for lunch. I do not have any cravings for anything at all.

I brought this up with my consultant and was just told I need to ensure I eat regularly for the baby. But, I am now noticeably losing weight (not that it is a bad thing) and my fiance is worried. But, I have no desire for food. I get a little peckish and eat something, but that is all I can do. Am I harming my baby with this and is anyone else experiencing this? I am 31 weeks along and wondering if the baby is pushing against my stomach, thus making me feel full.

sometimes I dont feel very hungry. Though I certainly make it for it at other times. I'm at the same stage as you and I only noticed my lack of hunger popping up since last week - maybe LO is indeed pushing on something. Or if I'm over tired I seem to not be so hungry.
But this is the time when LO really needs calories - he's gaining about half a pound a week in these last weeks - Thats huge when you take his size into consideration!!! So we must eat. Keep on forcing it down.
And are you taking vitamin suplements? Might be a good idea if not - especially if you're not managing quite enough food - baby needs lots of iron right now.

As for the weight - my sister in law gained 5 stone with one of her babies and lost it no worries. So dont worry about that yet. And she didnt even have a thyroid issue.

Iīve noticed this past week that my appetite has decreased dramatically. I donīt know if its cos my LO is pressing on my stomach or maybe that the warm weather weīve been having lately is just making me want to eat less. At my last appt on Fri I had lost weight, which surprised me, but my Doc didnīt seem overly concerned and everything was fine with my LO.

I think as long as what you do manage to eat is as healthy as poss, then your LO wonīt miss out on anything. Our bodies have plenty of reserves they can fall back on.

Me too. Thats been my standard breakfast right from the start. I hadnīt eaten it since childhood, but tried it again and really liked it. I donīt like just drinking a glass of milk on its own, so at least this way Iīm getting enough.

I cannot get even a small bowl of cereal down me. However, I have been drinking a glass of soya milk a day and a handful of muesli in some yoghurt.

I was taking pregnacare, but just ran out the other day and have to buy more. I have been taking them on a daily basis. And I am worried about the iron since I am a vegetarian. I am going to make an Indian kidney bean dish, another with cauliflower and another with potatoes tonight. And will try to eat a good portion of it. The thought of eating it...UGH!!! But, you are right. We must ensure we eat.

As for the 5 stone - I am a bit worried, but I have breastfeeding and after that, the Cambridge Diet, which worked wonders for me.

Add a border collie and three rabbits. One is a house rabbit who is almost as demanding as the dog!
