So I got sent in for pre-eclampsia bloodwork and I get to collect urine into a milk jug at home for 24 hours since my BP was 156/86 (which went down to 106/55 after she checked it with me laying down on the left side for 10 minutes) and more protein in the urine at the checkup today!

On a happy happy note, Ive dilated an additional cm since last week (total of 2cm!!) and Im 80% effaced, so yay! My ObGyn said she's definitely coming early !!!

I have to say, the internal really hurt this time. She got her finger in there and moved it around quite a bit, in a circular-like motion...maybe it was a mini-membrane sweep, cuz then she was looking at the glove after she pulled it out. Well, Im an idiot, because I should have asked what she was doing, but Im sure she wouldnt separate anything without telling me first..

Glad you get yours early.. Totally jealous though.

Im not getting my hopes up just yet! Ive heard of many people that were at the same point where I am, stalled and still went overdue!

Well, as per the 'other thread' we're chatting on if you happen to check up there for baby's head, you might run into your cervix.

Feels like a smooth donut with a dent in the center. You said you where somewhat dialated already (I think) so that dent will be a finger or two wide (or more). Each "finger" is about 2 cm. If you can feel a dent that is about the width of your forefinger (or another finger) you're about 2 cm dilated.

Effacement refers to the "thickness" of the cervix. A long cervix is about an inch thick (2.5 - 3 cm). If it's half that, it's 50% effaced. Also, if it's effacing the cervix will be very very soft like your bottom lip, and it will probably be lower in your vagina. If you have to struggle to find it, (in other words, it's up there pretty far, you're probably still not really effacing.
