Stressful time - hospital

Hi girls, thought I'd give you a little update on my somewhat stressful day yesterday and today (so far).

Yesterday first thing in the morning everything seemed fine - babe had been moving as normal. Then I was busy about the house and needed some shopping so I walked into the local shopping centre which is about a 3 mile round trip, but I felt fine and thought the walk would do me good. Anyway, I got back home afterwards and was a bit shattered, had a sit down and cold drink which is normally when baby would start to wriggle around and make herself known - but nothing.. So I had a couple of them Cadbury chocolate trifle things, still no movements that I could feel.. So I rang the midwife who said to go into the hospital and get monitored asap.
OH was at work and it would have taken him about 1.5 hours to get home so as he had the car I had to ring a taxi to take me and get OH to meet me at the hospital.
Soon as I got put on the monitor the midwife said she could hear baby moving which was really reassuring and she also said heartbeat seemed normal, but it was a little erratic (I thought anyway) it was varying in BPM from about 120 - 178, does anyone know if this is normal??
So anyway, today I've got to go back to the antenatal assessment unit at 3o'clock and be monitored again just to make sure everything is ok with little one. Thankfully my soon to be mother-in-law who I get on with really well is coming with me today as OH has only just started a new job and even though the company is really good and understanding about him needing time off I don't want to push things as they have been great so far.
Just to finish off I've now started feeling movements from bubba but have also got pains, kind of like period pains that come and go, and frankly aren't very pleasant! Bump going all tight with them too so not sure if they're strong BH's? Its too early for labour to be starting surely? This is baby number 1 so I'd kinda thought she'd be a late arrival?!

A slightly worried Laura x

Hope everything goes ok hun.

i got monitored for 20 mins at 30 weeks and my baby's heartrate varied from about 130-180. Can't remember exactly now, but I remember thinking it was strange so I asked the midwife who was with me and she said it was perfectly normal

Hope everything goes ok today xxx

It was erratic because of what you had been doing that day, that's all.

I wouldnt worry too much hun, I had to go into hosp on Saturday as LO hadnt moved for a few days, then went back in yesterday as still no movement. They monitored me for a few hours and everything was fine so im sure they are just being careful and want to reassure you by letting you know everything is ok.

I expect the heartrate was a bit mad because of your activity that morning, LO had a good workout by the sound of it!

Hope it goes well for you

My MW said that erratic HB was not unusal at all. She said if I listened to my baby all day long the HB would jump around like that, just like my BP would if I monitored it all day long. Different things influence it, sleep, food, activity. Glad to hear you LO is wiggling!!

baby's heart beat tends to increase if the mother is stressed and her own heart beat is higher than normal. very correlated.

Well I'm back from the hospital now, MW said that contractions are just BH and nothing to worry about! She also said that my pulse was slightly high and that this would be contributing to baby having faster than usual heartbeat - today it went up to the high 190's so I was a bit concerned! MW showed trace info to the doctor who said that everything is fine and the higher baseline heartbeat is not abnormal for a pregnancy before 37 weeks, so that was a relief. Also got told to make sure I drink enough as being dehydrated will raise pulse and babes heartbeat.
Typically as soon as I got to the assessment unit and was put on the monitor bubba starting moving so much I thought my bump was about to erupt lol!

The midwives were lovely though and I can't praise them enough for how friendly they were and how relaxed and confident they made me feel, has really helped put my mind at ease and they said to call back at any time if I have any concerns at all, so that was really nice, not once did they make me feel like a neurotic mum-to-be, so I have nothing but praise for the Colchester midwives!!
