GBS testing anyone??

Hiya, well as you all know im on my 2nd pg but didnt know anything about GBS testing on my 1st. it was only when i was on another forum that a girl said is anyone getting tested.
I went 2 my hospital 2day for my check up and they dont screen. So im gonna have to go my GP tomorrow and get some info on it as you should be tested between 35-37 wks.
If your a carrier you just need medication - SIMPLE!
but, and this scares me!
if i was a carrier and never knew, the baby could be in danger. They say around 700 babies a year in the UK have this and can lead to awful things like blindness and in 5% of cases the baby wont survive. Im SO mad that the NHS wont fund this as its so simple to treat b4 you give birth so that the baby comes out healthy its another penny saver and i think its so wrong.
I was told that even if u have a baby dont think you arent a carrier. So of i am 2 the GP tomorrow to see what he says on the matter.
Got a bloody good mind 2 walk 2 London and give Gordon Brown a real telling 2!
Am really ranting but am i the only 1 who thinks this should be on the NHS and even more so, talked about alot more so that every woman and get all the info and the chance to protect their unborn child??

I think its ridiculous the nhs don't test to be honest, I'm a carrier of GBS and the hospital found out after my first miscarriage,( i've had 3) but no one bothered to tell me, I found out by chance when i was pg with my 3rd son and after 2 miscarriages. I was fuming to say the least! Now i know i'm a carrier I have to pay for my own test at 37 weeks. £32 a small price to pay for peace of mind tho.

I lived in Germany for 4 years and they test every pregnant women for it there which i strongly believe they should do here too!

If you are really concerned check out thos website it tells you everything you need to know about GBS

I know I couldnt believe it when they said they just dont test! i have -o blood so need anti-d or i could miscarry in other pg, so if they fund anti-d why not GBS??
£32 is nothing im defo gonna get it done. Hope my doctor will shed some light on it tomorrow. Thanks for the website will be on there later 2nite. I just hope that this tread will give some other girls the advice to go and get tested as i never knew anything about it before and the word needs spreading across the UK as from the sounds of things we are the only country not 2 b screened!
Let me know how you get on with the testing i will post my outcome tomorrow after my GP visit xxx

You're welcome, let me know how you get on with your gp. There has been a recent petition sent to the government to try and get testing paidfor by the nhs in all pregnancies, I'm o neg blood too and i agree why test for that and not gbs its just money a far as hey are concerned, maybe if they were affected by it they would be more sympathetic!

Breatheeeee....rant over lol

Good luck hun xx

My test came back positive. I was hoping to avoid an IV, but since I need the antibiotics, I have to have it...oh well..whatever is best for Charlotte. It's messed up that they don't routinely test for it over there!

Totally agree with you hun bt at least you know ur LO will be ok with antibiotics. I had to have them with my last son but my labour was too quick sohe was tested and treated afterwards which meant a 3 day stay in hospotal but every sec was worth him being healthy. good luck with everything x

Just asked about this myself recently on this thread lol. Got a good website from someone else where you can order the test for free. You then have to send off for the results, which cost £32.
