I'm taking an iron supplement now myself, was told Wednesday that my blood tests came back showing that my iron levels were a little low. Spoke to the pharmacist and he said to take them with food (because they can cause an upset stomach) and to make sure to eat loads of fiber and veggies as they can cause constipation. Also taking them with OJ or some other form of Vitamin C is supposed to help your body absorb the calcium better and never take them with dairy products as the calcium and iron will cancel each other out!

I'm sorry, that stinks My mw told me this week my iron is low too. She has not started me on supplements yet because they can cause such bad constipation. So I would definetly load up on the water and fiber when you take them. But also try to add more iron in your diet and maybe you could take less of them or not at all after those first 4 weeks. Cream of wheat is a GREAT source of iron, as is beef. And iron from food is much more easily digested than supplements and less likely to cause constipation. Here is a good website my mom sent me this week about iron rich foods in case you are interested: http://www.healthcastle.com/iron.shtml

Good luck getting that iron up...and treat yourself to a steak

I also got told on Wed that my iron is really low (almost non-exsistant) and the doc BEGGED me to try taking iron tabs. The only thing is they make me really sick so I hate taking them.

Have you been taking them with food? That's supposed to help (even though it does decrease the amount of iron your body absorbs)....I've only taken them for one day so I really don't know how they are going to affect me yet. You need to take care of yourself

Whats pregaday? is it just a prenatal vit? I am anemic (preg induced) also and it is not getting any better... I was started on one capsule of palifer-cf (300mg of iron, and 0.5mg folic acid) a day... and I also take my daily prenatal vitamin, But my newest blood tests came back that my hemoglobin has gone down again, which I kind of suspected, I am very good at reading my body, and I could feel it. So now I have to take 2 of the iron supplements daily and my prenatal. But yes as Vickie said, it is really good to take with Orange juice or some other form of Vit C, and NOOO dairy... Good Luck!!

I've always had low iron (my whole life, they don't know why) and never found a tab that helps. I've tried taking them at night, with food, every other day...they always make me wicked sick. I've given up.
