Mia was a surprise baby, but we had heard that urban legend as well, and interestingly enough at all appointments her HR was above 140, except for one time when it was 138.

My daughter's heartbeat was 130-150 so the myth didn't stand for me.

Truthfully, as like an adult's heartbeat, when LO is active, the heartbeat will be faster and when inactive it will be lower.

I even asked my doctor about this wives tale and he agreed that it depended on the activity or inactivity of the baby.

Not true at all, even a little before labor

Baby's HR (heart rate) as measured by BPM has no direct relationship to sex UNTIL labor.

Interestingly, however, a study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1999 revealed that the baby's sex does influence heart rate during the labor process, with the hearts of little girls waiting to be born beating faster than those of little boys.

When I was monitered in hospital for 20 mnutes on a machine, my babys heart rate ranged from about 130 to about 180... I dont remember exactly. But there was a very large range!

Its probably a myth, but sometimes the sex prediction things are fun

Although with this one, I always thought boys had higher heartrates?
