Congrats on making a decision about what to do hun! I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to make. I was against having a section until I heard the risks to my daughter. I know I sounded kinda opinionated before and I'm sorry, I just wish that I would have tried induction first now, since she wasn't 10lbs. But at the same time I try not to have regrets since I know that my only motive was doing what was safest for Erica.
Try not to worry about the surgery. The spinal block (which I'm assuming is the anesthesia they will use) did not hurt at all! The IV hurt more! The surgery was a little uncomfortable since you still feel some tugging and you can feel the baby come out. But once LO is born and they bring her to you, that will be all you can think about anyway. I got really sick during surgery since they used morphine in my block, and they tried to get me to throw up in a suction thing like you use at the dentist! Needless to say, I ended up throwing up all over myself, which wasn't too pleasant. I also got VERY shaky for a few hours afterward, but it faded. Since Valerie is expected to be a big girl, she has a good chance of having low blood sugar at birth. Erica did, and they gave her formula in the OR. If you can, try to avoid this if you plan of breastfeeding, since it made the transition from bottle to breast more difficult, and she wasn't satisfied with just the colostrum before my milk came in. Oh, and Erica's blood sugar came up within a couple of hours, so she wasn't taken to the nursery or anything, they just checked it a couple times by a heel prick that she didn't even notice. Make sure you pack enough close for an extended stay in the hospital. We were there for 5 days, 4 nights. I'd also recommend some form of entertainment, since at first you wont be doing much. We brought our lap top, ipod, and cell phones, and I meant to bring a book and magazines, but forgot.
As far as recovery, after the surgery you are not going to want to move. Erica was born at 8:14am, and the surgery lasted maybe 30-40 mins after that. By 1:30-2:00 pm the nurse came in and asked if I wanted to try and stand up. I hated her more than anything at that moment lol, but I got up. I even walked to the next room. Hold a pillow to your stomach, it will make it feel better. Also, if you start to feel light headed, let the nurses know. That was the only time I got up the first day, but the second day, they took my catheter and IV out, so they let me get up, walk a little and go to the bathroom, and take a nice shower. Once I was able to get in comfy clothes and shower, I felt MUCH better! Take it day by day, and try to do a little more each day. Expect your DH to have to take care of LO the first couple days, and after you come home, you can not carry anything heavier than your baby. So you cant carry her in her car seat. I was able to after my 2 week appointment. OOH also, just a warning, the nurses and your doc will come by to check on you. They will push on your tummy and it hurts quite a bit, but they are just checking that your uterus is contracting. You will be fine, its not easy, but no birth is ever really easy. And not one thing will matter the second you are holding your baby girl in your arms. Good luck, I wish you all the best, and I will be thinking of you!
If you have any questions at all or need to talk, please feel free to PM me. You're already a great mom, by making a decision to ensure your daughters safety. I wish I didn't have to have a c-section, but I also had to make sure my little girl was safe no matter what. Its what mothers do. Lots of and wishing you a speedy recovery! =)
PS..SORRY FOR THE BOOK LONG POST!!

BurtonBaby, thank you so much for giving me a heads up about the c-section! You have reassured me and calmed my nerves....of course, I hadn't planned on a c-section so I really hadn't read up on them. Now I've been trying to read as much as I can and when I get advice like this from you; it helps so much! I'm feeling more and more better about it every day...a little nervous about the catheter (haha, i know!) I'm just so anxious to get through the surgery and see my little girl and know that we're both ok and in the recovery room! If I have any more questions, I'll be sure to PM you! Thanks so much for the post!
Your welcome. I was so scared I cried the morning of my surgery before I went in. Honestly about the catheter, I was scared too! Didn't sound very pleasant!! But they give you the spinal block before they put it in, so you dont feel it go in. Then for the next day or day and a half, you completely forget about having to go to the bathroom, cause you never have the urge. But you dont feel it while its in you. I was nervous when they were about to take it out, but honestly, sorry if TMI, but it felt like a tampon coming out. You'll be alright, and you will have your beautiful baby girl in your arms soon!! I hadn't planned mine either, so I was kinda freaking out trying to read as much as I could too. Oh! A couple of girls on here also said not to look at the big lights over the table you are on since you can see a reflection. I didn't look, since I didn't want to risk seeing anything!

My mom told me this exact thing....so I plan on looking at my husband the entire time. Haha! I feel I'd probably look up if I didn't have something else to put my attention on.
