And the blood test said...

Well I got the random blood sugar test back and she said mine was 6.1 and their cut off is 6.0, so yup... got to have the Glucose Tolerance Test!!!!

Got to go to hospital for 9.30 next wednesday and can only have water after 10pm the night before.

To be honest, I was kind of expecting this... I have a strong family history of diabetes and had a BMI of 31 (OBESE!!!) before I was pregnant, so all the risk factors are there!

Oh well.... just something else to add to the list I guess!!

I'm sorry....that stinks At least you are fairly close to the end before this has come up. I really feel for you having to fast prior to it. I thought I had to for my 1-hr glucose test and I was freaking...found out I didn't have to fast after all. I become homocidal when hungry, even not pregnant. Here's to your fasting and staying out of jail!

I had to have one last time I was pregnant - they do it routinely here if your BMI is over a certain level (not sure what level though). I've got another one booked this time. Thing that annoys me is having to take a whole morning off work to have it done! Soooo boring!

Please don't worry too much about GD. The test is easy (if not a teeny bit yukky). And GD is no major issue. If you can't control your sugar levels by eating less sugar and fats, then you have insulin injections or pills whcih control it for you.

It isnt worth stressing over honestly! You baby may get big, but that doesnt always happen!

Sorry to hear about your test but like Emmea said GD isn't too bad to deal with. The test stinks though. Bring a book and a snack for after! Good luck!

I'm not too worried about it to be honest... it's something I was kinda expecting for months!

All I thinking about is what will happen come labour time, what with my SPD aswell. I mean, the pain of natural birth is scaring me, but the thought of a C-section chills me to the bone!

I'm back at the physio on Friday afternoon, so I'm gonna have a chat with her about it a bit more...

....but there's still the probability that I don't actually have GD! Will have to see next week.... no use worrying about it! I've gotten used to the fact that pregnancy sucks!!!!

I was told by my diabetes MW that you have two weekly growth scans and if baby gets big, then you will be offerd the option of a c-section/early induction. They rarely let diabetic mothers get to full term if the baby is healthy.

But baby may not get big and then you only have to deal with the SPD. Have you had any indication on his/her size yet?

Well it is a sign of a big baby - but certainly not conclusive. If you have GD, you will be allocated a diabetes MW and a consultant who will discuss difficulties with birth. The increase in the insulin in your baby's body, to make up for your high blood sugar means that the babys shoulders and head can be quite chubby on top of the whole of the baby developing faster, so they normally look in to your options then.

Good luck!
