I dont want to tell you what to do or disagree with the other ladies, but a couple months ago I was put in this position too. My doctor told me that Erica was going to be 10lbs if I went to term, and the chances were slim that I would be able to deliver her. She had me worrying about Erica getting stuck, the risk of shoulder dystocia, and emergency c-section. She told me when she did an internal at 37 and 38 weeks that I wasn't dilated at all, that I wasn't effacing, and said I was not favorable for an induction. So, worrying about my daughter I went ahead with the section. Honestly the recovery wasn't too bad. I got up and walked the same day of the surgery. Its been five weeks and I feel fine most of the time.

Honestly tho, if I could go back I would have tried induction first. Ultrasounds are notorious for being wrong about babies weight. Erica was 8lb 10oz, and even tho thats big, women deliver babies even bigger than that all the time. I'm only like 5'4 and she was my first so my pelvis isn't widened from previous childbirths. It might have been a difficult labor, but our bodies are made to do it. When me and DH decide to have another LO, I'm definitely going to try for a VBAC. In a way I feel like I was cheated out of going into labor, experiencing labor and childbirth.

Its just my opinion, but I honestly would make sure you weigh all of the pros and cons before committing to a decision. If you are favorable for induction, maybe you can go that route? Your body is made for childbirth, just try to have confidence in it. I doubted myself, and now I might now ever be able to deliver naturally.

As much as I'm against elective c-sections, if the dr. is saying it's the safest thing for you, than you REALLY need to consider it. Like I said in another post, my family has VERY large babies, I was 9.6 myself. That being said, we are also big people, I'm the smallest in my family at 5'9". To avoid tearing is not a reason to have a c-section, the scar and pain from the c-section is much worse than that.

Like Burtonbaby said, U/S are usually off by about 20% so you need to consider that as well. She's someone to listen to as she just went through it.

for whatever you decide!

!
its as good a reason as any.
I resent people saying things like this as its exactly why i'm going C seciton. My conditon means I'll cut a lot. And cutting isnt just pain, its affects the stress of the birth for mum and baby, it's the chances of foreceps being needed, it's recovery afterwards, it's emotional affects afterwards, it's affects on sexuality afterwards, it's lots of things. It's so much more than just being a whimp.

No one should be so forceful as to say " is not a reason to have a c-section". Every person is different and every case is different.

ooof, thats my little rant done.

I had an emergency c-section first time , due to getting induced and long progression ect ect, it was AWFUL. I had the worst time ever, hated every minute and did find it hard to bond with daughter cos of all the stress i was put under through this operation as it was emergency.

But i had elective for my second and i cant tell u how great it was, recovery time was brillinat compared to emergency, midwfies that came in with me and docters kept me informed through out the whole opertaion telling me how good i was doing and i enjoyed every second.
I bonded just like that as i wasnt stressed through it i knew what was happening etc.
Deff go for an elective if there is a slight chance of an emergency happening, emergencys are rushed ( obv why its called emergency) and its quite scary.
Whereas electives your more aware and more calm things go smoothly.

Choose what ever suits you best

The difference there is that you have a condition that means you'll possibly tear more, whereas a lot of women who have babies don't tear at all. So why would someone who doesn't have a reason choose to put themselves through a section because theres a slight chance of a tear, and that it might hurt?

Thats just my opinion, obviously, but I dont understand people who have elective cesarians for the sake of it. We were all made to have babies, thats why we're here! Yes it'll hurt but it has to be worth it in the end?

I hope I haven't offended anyone! lol

There are options for a reason. They want everyone to be comfortable no matter what their decision is, nor the reason for that decision.

Hi, I am a newbie on here but I hope you dont mind me posting.

I had an emergency section with my last little girl, it was a long labour, and she got distressed, and passed meconium, so I was rushed off to theatre.

Even though it was a rush, I didnt for one moment feel like I needed to panic, all the staff were amazing and helped to keep me calm too. I was up and about the next day (had daughter at 10 pm), and had no painkillers after that.

I have had a choice this time round, but have further complications of Gestational Diabetes, so am not allowed to go over 39 weeks, I could have been induced, but have chosen to have an elective section, which I am having this Friday 9th.

I have actually just got back from my pre-op appointment, I was a bit nervous this morning, but having spoke to the docs and midwives I feel much calmer about the whole thing now.

It really is your choice, I just want you to know that sections are not really that scary, and this is coming from the biggest wimp you will ever talk too

You do get some pain after, and getting up and about can be painful, but you will be offered pain relief, so it is managable.

One last thing, and it is something not often spoken about......after the section, you can get trapped wind.....let it out, coz if you keep it in it will hurt and the more it builds up....when you eventually let rip you could actually comtribute to global warming

Whatever you decide.......Good luck.....and sorry this was so long

I think Holldoll was referring to the general tearing that may happen with a normal vaginal delivery. WHICH IS NORMAL.

You've already mentioned you have a particular condition which makes your tearing far more difficult and painful (ie not normal) and her advice/comment would probably not apply to your situation.
