I would talk to your birthing center because they probably offer other methods of pain relief. There are also plenty of alternative methods that they offer, I'm sure.

If for piece of mind you want to know you can get an epi if you need to, i would opt to give birth somewhere else which also has a birthing pool.

I hope to have a water birth but like the reassurance that if it gets too much i can have an epi.

Ultimately, if you change where you're giving birth to cover all pain relief methods, it's one less thing to be worrying about. You'll be just fine without an epi but we can go out of our minds with worry sometimes!!

Speak to your midwife about this, she should be able to give you more info on the places to give birth which are near to you

Yeah, I would definately speak about your options with your midwife. The local midwife led unit we have in our town have the birthing pool but also have pethidine and gas/air. Their rates of pethidine use are very low though.

If you think you may request one, then I would choose somewhere else. x
