I had one at 36 weeks. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. All over and done with in the matter of seconds.

Seems though that in SA they do a lot more checking that what you guys get in the UK / US. Could just be the hospital I go to though, its only a year old and they have all the latest equipment.

In the UK they tend not to do internals unless they have to. I've only had them in labour, or if i've had a problem (bleeding .etc.)

I'm Currently Feeling: 


My doc is doing a lot fewer now than when I was seeing him 12 years ago with DD#1. But he's still doing them weekly as soon as he notes the baby is engaged, or if I'm going through something that might be considered a complication.

(ie they tested me for preeclampsia and he wanted to make sure I was staying closed and tight through my discomforts-and I think he wanted to do it as reassurance to me too.)
