Home births

Hey there, I've got a home birth booked and I just wondered who else out there was doing it!

I am planning a home birth. I now have the birth kit my MW had me order, and I have all the bags of stuff she wanted put together, things like the sheet for the birth, and after, towels, the baby stuff and post natal things. My DH and I are doing the big clean she has her clients do, in our bathroom and bedroom this weekend.

I am so looking forward to my birth. I have no fears that are out of the ordinary, and feel very relaxed and confident in my decision to give birth in this way. It feels right and natural. I am really lucky and have the complete support of my husband, my best friend and my mother, all who will attend. This is so vital to me. I think having a strong support system around you during labor is soo important. I know they will really help keep me focused and cheer me on when my labor gets really hard.

I also have my labor projects all planned out. One of the books I read recommended doing something during early labor to keep you occupied and not clock watching. So I am going to wash all the baby clothes, that I have not already washed. And once my mom gets here, we are going to bake sugar coookies. This is something she and I have done together since I was a little girl, so I thought it would be a really nice activity. She has also ordered different baby themed cookie cutters, so it will be super cute.

I applaud anyone who even considers this.
I could have never gone with a home birth. Thinking back at my experience I don't know if I would have made it alive giving birth at home.

GOOD LUCK Samantha, I cannot wait to hear your story.

I think it's a lovely thing to do.

I remember reading an article in a magazine about a lady who had had a home birth, and after she had the baby, she got into her own bed with her husband and had a cuddle and a cup of tea with the two of them. I think that would be really nice.

I don't have the bottle for it though.

But I look forward to hearing your stories

I wanted a home birth from the beginning but had heard you couldn't with your first baby. However, every midwife I've spoken to is really keen on home births! My mum is going to be there to do things my partner is hopeless at! I've had a textbook pregnancy so far (touch wood!) so am optimistic it'll be great....just hoping I don't have to be induced!
I read somewhere that first births are generally slow progressing so complications are spotted early enough to transfer to hospital so not worried about that side of things. It'll just be so nice to get straight into my own bed afterwards and not having to get my stuff packed to come back from hospital!
Well...due on Monday so fingers crossed!!
