Breastfeeding after breast augmentation surgery?

Hi ladies, I'm new to this forum. I am almost 35 weeks pregnant, really glad to be with such lovely moms here.

I want to know if anyone breastfed after having breast augmentation surgery? I had one in 2005, because of deformed, tubular breasts, and I want to know how augmentation can affect lactation. My plastic surgeon has told me that the mammary glands were not tampered with at all and the implants were placed in pockets far away from the glands. He said that there will be no problems in terms of breastfeeding and that I can be treated normally, using breast pumps and all.

I want to know if moms who have had surgery, if your breast milk was less? Also, what was more comfortable, a manual or an electric breast pump?

Thanks and any other tips would be great

Zoe xx

I had a BA in 2008 and had the areolar incision which can affect breastfeeding....but most people have the crease incision which doesn't affect it at all as your surgeon said

Have you tried squeezing your boobs? I was getting worried because I hadn't had any leaking until a friend said to try squeezing the whole boob rather than just the nipple. I do have to squeeze really hard but do get some leakage when I do this!

Saying that it's perfectly normal to not be able to get anything out so don't panic if you can't!

This is my first baby so can't comment on milk production but I do know of lots of ladies who have had a BA and were able to BF with no problems. I think often it's just a case of wait and see, annoying but there's not much we can do until after the birth.

Welcome to the boards!

I had an augmentation 5 years ago and I am planning to breast feed. My MW said that as my boobs have got a lot bigger and becasue I got a lot of tingling/achy boobs in 1st trimester and becasue I can squeeze and get colostrum that I should be OK. I had implants over the muscle with a peri-areolar uplift and I have lost a little bit of sensation but I am really hopeful xx

hi! thanks for this thread! I had implants put in under the muscle through the areola in aug. 2006 and got preg that december. i didnt BF that child because my nipples were TOO sensitive to even wear a bra a lot of the time.. but now it's been some time and i am going to give it a try. I never had a problem w/ milk coming in and throughout this preg. i have gotten plenty of colostrum out, so i am optimistic.

Hi I had it done over the muscle, about 10 years ago now, BF my DD fine altho one breast didn't produce as much milk for some reason (about 1/2 the amount) - not sure if that is down to the implant or is natural though?! Also expressed using manual & electric pumps, both were comfy
