Just thought I'd share that personally buying Newborn sized clothes had been a total waste of money for us. My son was 8lb 9oz and didn't fit in the Newborn sized clothes I'd bought him, he went straight into 0-3mths clothes. And same with my daughter, she was 8lb 10oz and again had to go straight in 0-3mths size. They were both quite tall, 56cm but my advice would have been the opposite and don't buy much Newborn sized clothes and focus more on 0-3mths size; once they've been put in the dryer etc they'll more than likely shrink a bit anyway.

when i had my little boy, he was 9lb 15oz and he went straight into first size which was mostly from asda and he stayed in first size for quite a while (even sleepsuits lasted a good few weeks), i've done the same this time around and got plenty of firt size, as my little girl is estimated to be smaller than my son was so she should get even more wear out of them =D!! xx

Agreed, Jocelyn was 9lb 8oz when she was born and on the 98th centile for length and she still needed to be in newborn for a good 2-3 weeks!

If babies are in clothes that are too big then, because of how baggy they are, they have lots of extra air around them to warm up so they waste calories on staying warm instead of growing.. Better to have well fitting clothes!

i agree, i only had 6 newborn vests and thought that would be enough, but my lil man was only 6lbs and i was washing vests on our first day home as he weed on 2 when changing him plus we'd used some in hospital and so we've ended up needing more. Most of the newborn stuff is okay fitting for him but his lil feet dont quite fit in the ends and we have to roll the sleeves up. M&S newborn clothes are a lot smaller than Asda's and Tesco's and they fit him nicely x

I didn't buy too many newborn clothes because I was afraid my lil man wouldn't be able to fit in them long since the DR. told me he'd be a big boy..well he was 8.2lbs when he was born..and is now 9.2 lbs..and newborn clothes are still a little big on him..I actually ended up going out and buying more newborn clothes because everything was so big on him.

i agree

luckily most newborn stuff we had was given and i had still only bought first size and 0-3, this time iv boughts all 0-3 IF hes smaller (which i doubt) i can easily nip and get some smaller sizes although i have kept all the newborn unisex stuff in a box just in case x x

ETA: and yeah i found i have to put her in bigger sleepsuits because her legs were too long for them once they have been washed a few times x
