Today was the scariest day of my life

I am still in the hospital. I had my c-section 2 days ago. The next day I had chills and was wheezing. It happened again last night. The doctor suspects that I am allergic to one of the painkiller meds. This morning, after going to the nursery, I had chills again and couldn't breathe. All the nurses were in the room. They gave me oxygen and a nebulizer. It took around 45 minutes for for the breathing to go back to normal. I was so scared! It's a good thing my OB gyn was in the hospital, so she came to my room to calm me. They are discontinuing the medicine and are doing some blood tests today. yesterday when I had that episode of chills and wheezing, my son was left with me in the room. He was crying when he saw me in that state. He kept asking the nurses if I was going to die. It was awful for him to witness that. It took a while for him to calm down, he couldn't stop crying. I had to keep assuring him that I was okay and he kept on hugging me after.

Anyway, I hope to leave the hospital soon. They referred me to an allergy doctor. I think by Sunday, I should be able to go home finally.

Just wanted to add more photos of our baby Gavin Patrick. He makes my heart melt. I can't believe he is only 2 days old as he is so alert.

Wow, I feel really bad for you.

Were you on any ANTIBIOTICS during or after the birth? ... Penicillin, Amoxicillin etc???? Did you have group b strep and needed antibiotics? There are a lot of people that are allergic to penicillin type drugs.....you could be allergic to a pain med too like you ad mentioned......

I know I am allergic to 'Bactrum' a Sulfa drug (antibiotic) [took this for a UTI] and I couldn't breathe the 2nd day on it and I also felt like I was going to die!.....

I hope you can figure out what is causing this!

p.s- your son is adorable

Thanks everyone. The strange thing is--- the room was filled with nurses who didn't know what to do. I guess you don't expect this this to happen on the maternity floor. Good thing a resident doctor later came and told them to get oxygen asap. My bp shot up right away and I had a fever. My OB who was in the hospital was called and she saw first hand what i was experiencing. I am glad she was there to calm me down as I was so scared. She said she has never seen this kind of a reaction to a painkiller. Usually her patients would get hives or itching. The weird thing is I know I am not allergic to anything. I guess you develop more allergies later in life. I have to be more careful now with new meds I take in.
