Breech Baby

Hi ladies, I haven't posted since my first trimester but now I'm back since I'm getting closer to the end of my pregnancy.

I'm 37 and 3 and scheduled to have a c-section on May 15th because the baby is breech. I have uterine abnormalities so chances of the baby turning are pretty slim at this point.

I am wondering though for anyone who has had a breech baby before - have you experienced them dropping before birth? I'm still carrying fairly high so I'm just curious.

Hello!

Sorry, I can't offer much advise, but When I went for my 34 week appointment just under a couple of weeks ago, I was told that my baby is breech, and I may need a section. The consultant seemed to want me to make a choice there and then whether I want baby turned (although he didn't seem very happy about this) or whether I wanted a section, but I have asked for babys position to be checked at 36 weeks, so I have a scan on Thursday, so we'll go from there.

I can't work out if baby has turned or not, but my bump doesn't seem to of changed

Hope all goes well with your section, if you need to chat, feel free to pm me.

I've justbeen for my 36 week scan and told the same thing. I'm carrying quite low so I have no idea if she'll turn or not. Its a strange feeling. I've just been told I wont need a C-Section due to a low placenta (its moved!) but I still might need one because she's breech. I'm going to be spending lots of time on my gym ball to help her along.

My daughter was born breech. Her bum engaged and everything so I definately dropped before I had her leading the midwife and doctor to believe Faith had turned and were certain they could feel her head down. Anyway it was only when I was trying to push her out that they saw she was breech! Luckily I was able to still have her naturally cos of how far I'd progressed, they could see I was able to continue and have her naturally. So yes in my experience they can still drop while in the breech position!

I hate to butt in, I never made to the 3rd trimester, but a lot if not most of breech babies can be delivered vaginally. If you don't want a c-section, i say get a second opinion. The trick to delivering breech babies depending on how they present is to be standing up and using gravity to your advantage. For butt first breechies there is a similar but modified method. Laura Shanley has given birth to a breech baby, and I'm sure she'd like to chat. Oh yes, I don't know about in the UK, but the reasons why docs want to give c-sections for breechies is more because of legal reasons and because they are lacking in skill not because breech babies cannot safely be birthed vaginally.

A good book is Pushed by Jennifer Black
Breech Birth by Benna Waites is said to be good

Good luck!

I agree that babies can be delivered vaginally as Faith was born vaginally but what also concerns me is the damage that can happen too in some cases. I agree that doctors prefer c-sections don't get me wrong and I'm proof you can deliver a breech baby safely, but with my daughter it ended up dislocating her hip and the hospital not realising until she was 6 months old. She ended up in traction and had to have an op to put her hip back into place and then spent 3 months in plaster. So my point is, although you can give birth to a breech baby naturally you also have to be prepared for problems that can occur with it. Something that I know only too well.

Hello.

I know of someone whose baby was in breech right up till 38 weeks.
She hadn't even dropped when I saw her a day before she gave birth. In the few hours after I saw her her baby turned and dropped and was born naturally. No complications at all.
Everyone was telling her how having a breech baby is so dangerous etc etc etc and that the baby should've turned by now but she chose not to worry about it. When the baby was ready he turned.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I had my 38 week appointment yesterday and the doc thinks that in fact the baby has turned. I had a horribly painful night on Friday and I thought that maybe it had turned but I wasn't sure...I'm still not;-) I have another ultrasound booked for next Friday to find out for sure...if I make it that long.

I'm much more nervous now thinking that I'll have to go through a vaginal delivery since I had come to terms with the c-section a while ago...now I have to change my mindset and be ready for either option.
