RLT - a few questions

I've seen a lot of threads about RLT now and was wondering a few things;

what is it
what is it meant to do
is it expensive and where to buy it
is it nice
when should you start taking it

xx

-its tea
-its supposed to help contractions better
-its really cheap, i got 40 teabags for under £2 from Holland and Barratt
-it depends on your taste, its not THAT bad, but i added sugar and/or blackcurrent to mine when i tried it
-midwives say to take it from 36 weeks xx

I got 24 bags (organic) and it was $6. SO I guess its pricier here.

Its meant to help your contractions be more effective and is supposed to "exercise" your cervix.

The thoughts on when to start vary.... some say you can take it throughout your pregnancy. I started at 33 weeks though.

I think it tastes pretty much like regular tea. I just add a little honey to mine. Not bad at all.

what is it Tea made from raspberry leaves
what is it meant to do Tone your uterus in preparation for labour - this is said to help during the 'second stage' of labour where you push your bubba out It also helps to shrink the uterus back down to it's original size easier
is it expensive and where to buy it I didn't find it to be too expensive, maybe $4.50 for a box of 25? But I live in New Zealand so it will likely be different for you
is it nice I personally do not mind it - my midwife seemed taken aback. It really is a personal taste - I find it tastes similar to regular tea bags so chances are if you like regular tea you won't mind this one. It is brown as well. I find it is nice to add a teaspoon of honey
when should you start taking it Any time from 32 weeks, as many cups as you can handle I suppose, but ideally 3 a day I've heard. I'm naughty and only usually have just the one

x

To be honest, it's not harmful - i.e. not likely to cause premature labour so 32-33 weeks is safe. 34 if you're still not sure, but any later than that and you won't be getting the maximum potential from drinking it if you get me

Maybe make a poll asking when people started taking it and see what is said

That and of course ask your doctor/midwife for their opinion on when to start drinking it

what is it Tea
what is it meant to do Tone your uterus and for women's overall health
is it expensive and where to buy it No, it's not expensive
is it nice I like it
when should you start taking it You can actually take it any time in pregnancy and when not pregnant. But some suggest avoiding the first trimester. Many women start taking it in the 3rd trimester

Because I've read that raspberry leaf can speed up the 2nd stage of labour does anyone know whether it's safe to take when you are a carrier of Group B Strep? (where you have to make sure you get at least 4 hours of antibiotics before birth).

I know the chances of having a 4 hours or less labour are slim, but what if you couldn't get the antibiotics in time? I'll ask my midwife this I think.

(sorry for hijacking thread btw!).
