Belated announcement/birth story - long

Announcing the arrival of my gorgeous son Daniel Cameron.

He was born on Feb 28th (6 days late) at 02:36.

I lost my plug at about 4pm on Sat and went up to the hosp 1 hr later with relatively painless contractions every 2-3 mins. I was examined and sent home at 6 since I was only 2cm dilated. By the time I got home and had a bath I was in quite a bit of pain even with the TENS machine, not surprising really since Iwas 9cm dilated when I got back to the hosp at 8:30!

I had hoped for a water birth but the mw told me that I'd have my baby beore the pool was full! I was taken into a delivery room to wait for my waters to go, mws changed shift and shortly after 'gush'! My new mw examined me to check I was fully dilated but appeared concerned and got another to check - that's when she dropped the bombshell, "That's not a head I can feel it's a bum !"

Suddenly all hell let loose and the calm, dimly lit room was lit up and full of people. After examining me again and some discussion the consultant said that it would be better for both of us if I tried to deliver vaginally since I was so far gone.

Two hours, a shot of pethidine and a lot of pain and pushing later they decided he wasn't going to budge and took me in for an emergency c-section.

I'm slowly getting over the shock (I was shaking from when they told me until I got onto the ward about 4 hours later) but he's definitely worth it. I have nothing but praise for the staff who were with me, the mw didn't even take a break until I was in recovery. I am furious however, with my comunity mw, a student said that she thought he was breech at 38 wks but my com mw said, no, it just has a bony bum!
