BMW servicing is mega expensive though....
Astra...zzzzz... plastic fantastic inside (sorry) and the new model is out so the older ones will depreciate quicker (vauxhalls always do).
Personally, I wouldn't choose either, Astra rear visability is awful and as an adult passenger I always feel trapped in the back.
I would go down the route of a Ford Focus... TDCI or even an earlier ST if you want something a bit different. Fantastic cars, decent boot, solid and spacious in the back. Get more for your money than a Golf as well....
BMW I feel you always pay for the name and not much else!!
Good luck...

I have a Focus ST3 (09 plate) and we are swapping it next week for a skoda octivia VRS. I looooooooooooove my ST and im totally devestated at having to get rid of it but because of the recaro seats in the back a baby seat does not sit in it properly. Im am totally devestated at swapping my car but we cant keep it when you cant get a car seat in the back and there is no way i would go back to a normal focus after having the ST either.

I know you werent looking at the focus but had to say my wee bit on the ST matter.

Thanks Ladies I think i may be swayed towards the BMW as that was my origional choice until my OH said he prefered tha Astra. Thants when my confusion began. I wanted to treat myself but practicality was gettin the better of me.

My brother is gettin a focus and i did not want to get the same as him and i only like them in two door which is totally unpractical.

Went for midwife visit and baby is 3/5 (engaged?), i hate depending and waiting for OH to take me places and i'm having a sweep on the 1st April. So tommorow the day i am goin to the show room to put down the deposit for collection on Monday.
