I love love love love love my Astra, Its coming off the road now as its just lost the exaughst and i cant afford to fix it just yet. But my mum has a BMW 316, My Astra is so much better, cheaper and far far quicker!

By far the one series is a nicer more solid, powerful car and potentially more reliable.. and wayyyy sexier

My dads had both and id say the bmw hes got a bmw 1 series 59 plate and its the best car hes had by far, id look into it more though as they are expensive to run, my dad had a brand new bmw 320i i think it were and it cost loads to run so he sold it and got the bmw 1 series.

Hes also got the new renault clio sport and thats a nice car and hes had no problems with that car.

I think you should get the Astra thats what i have just bought, they are really smart comfortable and a lot cheaper on repairs to the bmw. Ours is an 06 and it is an sxi so has added features which make them look appealing.

BMW's are renown for being rubbish in the snow so I'd opt for the astra!

Actually BMWs are known for being great in the snow?? Being designed/made in Germany I would say they would kind of have to be ... especially little rear wheel one series, they are incredible in the snow! As to everyone that's comparing them to the older 3-series, there is no comparision really. You just have to take a drive in one and you will fall in love haha.

I swear I'm not a BMW sales person but the 1 series are really awesome. Plus the one series is still new and the new shape doesn't come out till late 2012 so u get to own a shiny current model car for ages lol x

i dont know how many different types of bmw youve had and driven in the snow but i can 100 per cent say they are awful in the snow i had a x5 it just skidded so does my friends my oh has a m3 convirtble it wouldnt move of our drive my friend couldnt drive her one series for over two months cos if the snow and ice these are all brand new cars i took a one series convertible out in the snow at the beginning of the year
ohs db9 was better in the snow than my x5!

my parents friends own a car firm and will not lease a bmw in the snow as they have had to many problems! might depend where you live but they are not good for snow! audis seats ect are ok even my bros mini was better than our x5! x if your going to spend that much on a car ots worth looking in to it and looking at other cars not just bmws!

It depends how much money you have to spend but if your budget will stretch to a newer shape Astra i'd definitely go for that
