I was happy about this until a friend made me worry.....

I started my maternity leave on Monday and I have noticed just how active my baby is!

He/she has always been pretty active when I am lying down in bed at night time/relaxing on the sofa but I have never really noticed much movement during the day, as I am a teacher, so when at work I was on my feet all day, quite stressed at times, and there was always some background noise. I would put my hands on my belly and notice some body part sticking out, then when I'd feel again it had moved but I wouldn't feel it so I guess baby was moving but I was too busy to notice.

Since Sunday my baby has been wriggling, poking, punching, hiccupping... a few times an hour (movements are the same type and frequency as I had been feeling them in the evenings except I am now feeling them throughout the day) and I have been really happy about it as it is reassuring that i have a nice healthy and strong baby. If I put my hands on my belly he/she pushes into it, and I am seeing ripples as he/she punches me. I thought I was either noticing movements more because I was sitting down more or the baby was moving more because I wasn't.

Was telling my friend and she said that I should go straight to the hospital as it is a sign of something being wrong, like cord problems or baby in distress. Is she right?

Ive never heard of that hun, I am sure a moving baby is a happy baby. If you have any concerns at all then call the midwife but I work in a maternity/scanning ward and we have never warned ladies to check for too much movement, and my midwife has never mentioned it to me either. Always best to call instead of worry though, bubs was prob moving around lots before but as you were so busy you just may not have noticed xx

Thanks. I wasn't worried until I told my friend, and I was telling her as I thought it was a great thing that baby was active and wriggling about. Yeah I think I just wasn't noticing it when at work. Will ask my midwife about it on Monday when I see her though I am sure she will tell me not to worry.

It just feels like baby is doing little stretches, wriggles, rolls, and big punches if something dares to touch my belly.... not thrashing about as if in distress. I assume it would feel different if something was wrong.

Movement however much is GOOD!! My LO is sooooo active I have been on the monitor twice in the last week due to other problems and He is a little devil. Over 30 movements in an hour...always wriggling about and stopping the heart monitor from reading him!!!!

The midwives think he is gonna be out and kicking a football!!

The ONLY downside is my sore bump!!!!

Lack of movement is the only thing to worry about!!

I was a teacher too and the only time I noticed bubs was at lunch or when I was sat in a meeting - with 28 4year olds I was so active bubs really was furthest thing from my mind. Now I feel every squirm and hiccup when I'm not dashing about - suddenly thought yesterday I hadn't felt anything since early morning hiccups and then realised I had just had a really busy day and as soon as I sat down at the NCT antenatal class she didn't stop for 2 1/2 hours.
I'm taking it as all good and a chance to try and bond with baby finally!
