Never ever ever heard that before. Don't think your friend knows what she's talking about, I'm afraid. I'm sure she means well, but I think its bad advice.

MWs are only concerned about lack of movement. At antinatal last pregnancy they explained it to us as: if you're feeling poorly you want to lay on the sofa and don't want to move much, and its the same with LOs, if the baby was feeling poorly

I would say LO is proabably moving more now you are relaxing more, AND as you say he/she was probably moving during the day but now you are more aware of it.

Hi hun, Think that was really unfair of your friend to say that!
If baby is in distress he will stop moving not get more active!!
I found as soon as I started my ML and started to relax and not have the daily stresses, I felt Junior so much more!
Enjoy the feelings!

Awww what a horrible thing to say to you hun no wonder your worrying.

my midwife says 15 kicks a day & below is a case to worry about & i should contact either her or the maternity after the ante-natal is closed,

but i think am having a lil football player as hes kicks, punches me like mad, sometimes its annoying but its very reassuring that my baby is fine

All I can think is that when you are up and moving about, this motion rocks baby so baby may have been quieter when you were at work but since you are now on ML and, assuming you are doing less, your baby is now less active and therefore you are more aware of it.

My baby is REALLY active, and has not slowed down at all in the last few weeks, if anything is moving and thrashing about more. The MW's are always really happy with this and write in my notes "very active baby".

I don't think you need to worry

Nicola xx

My baby moves constantly. He is really strong and kicks, punches, rolls.... my midwife was so pleased as she said it's a good sign of a healthy baby. When she checks for the heartbeat he kicks the doppler and she has to chase him to get a reading! His hearbeat changes according to his movements and she said that shows a really well developed central nervous system as he is reacting to things :-D I think your friend doesn't really know what she's talking about and I really wouldn't worry :-)

You don't notice it if you are busy because you are focused on something else, it's only when you sit down and relax that you will notice it more and as you are now on maternity leave that has given you more chill out time. You should only worry if there is no movement or significantly reduced movement.

I have heard that a rarely a baby can have jerk, fit like, shuddery movoments which can indicate a problem. Maybe thats what shes talking about?

But normal kicks, hiccups etc are just normal no matter how much they do it, dont worry xxx

Thanks ladies for all the replies I was silly to listen to her paranoia. I will ignore my friend and go back to loving feeling and seeing my little 'alien' wriggling about all day.

SarahSkasUK My baby also kicks the doppler away, the mw wrote v.good fetal movements in my notes Last time we went for an appointment as soon as she started feeling where back, head etc are the baby started moving and she eventually got the hb after no less than 5 mins of trying as my belly was jumping about all over the place as the baby was wriggling and rolling about all over the place It was very funny.

I have never heard of extra movements being a sign that something is wrong. Every time a doctor or midwife asks me about the baby, I say it's kicking lots, and they always say it's a good thing.

I have had the same experience as you though. I went on maternity at 29 weeks, but was pretty active for the first couple of weeks. I'm not sure if it's because I can pay more attention or whether it's because the baby is getting bigger so kicks a lot harder on the outside, but I'm feeling perhaps 5 or 6 times the amount of kicks I used to feel, and I don't think that's anything to worry about at all.
