I'm going to use muslin cloths with disposable liners and nappy nippa closures and some newborn size wraps at first, so I can get a good fit. I figure the muslin cloths with be more adjustable, and less bulky, on a small baby and they will come in useful afterwards too.
And then once he/she is big enough I have Bumgenius Flips with microfibre and cotton inserts for day, and Close Parent Pop-In with night boosters for night (or long journeys) as they are meant to be extra absorbent.
If you want advice on the different types of nappies available (All in Ones, Pocket, Prefold, Shaped, etc) then
thenappylady website is quite good, they have various articles, and they also do a tailored advice service where you tell them about what is important to you , what type of washing and drying facilities you have, etc and they give you recommendations - you then get a discount on that stuff.
They don't do all the different kinds of nappies (neither of the kinds I ended up buying), but it does give you somewhere to start.
Fill Your Pants seem good too, with a good help section on how many you might need, and what accessories you might need too.
And I found
these videos when searching YouTube - they are for Dundee Real Nappy Campaign scheme, but go through the way a few different types are used, using a teddy as a demonstration tool!
