Hi Emmea....
I know how you are feeling it is all rather overwhelming to begin with, my head was spinning with all the info I was given, you get used to it.
The sugar levels I have been given are.....before breakfast 3.5 to 5.5, and then 2 hours after each meal, 4.0 to 7.0.
I noticed when you took your after meal test it was only after an hour, and it may have gone down more if you had tested after the 2 hours. Were you told to test after just an hour?
As for food, my diet was actually fine so it wasnt what I was eating. You will find what works well for you, for example I was told to eat wholemeal bread, rice etc, but I find that wholemeal bread sends my sugar levels up, and white bread dosent.
I eat mainly fruit as snacks the only fruit I cannot eat is pineapple.
I dont eat any buscuits as I am afraid they will send my sugar levels up.
If you are put on insulin, you will be talked through everything you need, and also you will be given a contact number for a nurse in case you have any problems....... so you will be well looked after.
I always like to find positives in any situation, and believe it or not there are some positives to be found here.......
As from about 32 weeks I have had weekly scans, so I have watched baby grow very closely, which has been amazing.
Also they dont let diabetic mums go overdue, so you will be given a date for induction, usually between 38-39 weeks, so you will know when baby will be coming and not have the horrible day to day wait of going overdue
There is loads more info I want to add but I think this is enough for now.
Lastly though......please try not to worry too much, I promise you... the thought of injecting insulin is very much scarier than the doing of it, in fact when done properly you dont even feel anything the needle is so fine.
