Fetal assessment scan around 30/31 weeks?

Is this normal? To check size of baby?

I dont think its routinely done here and because my doctor has booked me for one to check size, I am worried!

What if my baby has stopped growing or something???

Didnt want to read and run hun, dont have alot of advice but Im sure if it was something serious your doctor would have told you exactly why she wanted the scan, I had a scan at 31 weeks but it was because of a bleed which turned out to be nothing. Please dont worry yourself too much. Sending you some If your still upset in a bit just get in touch with your doctor and ask exactly why the scan has been booked, after all you have every right to know whats happening with your baby xx

Here in the states, at my Dr's office, they routinely do one at 28 weeks to check on growth. Your fundal height might just be measuring bigger or smaller. Can you call your Dr's office and ask?

I had a scan at 30 weeks. I had a tiny bleed (which was fine) and my fundal height was measuring small (25 cms, instead of 30). Anyway, I had a scan and baby was slightly smaller than average, but was still growing nicely since my 22 week scan. A couple of days later, I had another antenatal appointment and fundal height was spot on at 31 cms.

Midwife wasn't particuarly worried about my fundal height for two reasons:
1) I'm small and she said I may just have a small baby
2) babies grow at different rates and sometimes play catch up growth wise.

Please try not to worry, the main thing is that baby is moving and heartbeat is fine.

It sounds like they want to check the growth of the baby. As the ladies have said - don't worry about it. It could be that you are measuring above or behind your dates by your fundal height and they just want to check. Fundal height is only ever used as a guide, so it doesn't mean anything categoric. If baby is fine and moving about, then I am sure you have nothing to worry about. On the plus side, you might get to see your baby again on a scan! Good luck x

I'm having a scan at 32 weeks. Don't think it is anything to worry about.

I am absolutely sure it is nothing to worry about. It sounds as if you have been referred for a scan because your fundal height measurement was slightly out.. (and it is not a wholly accurate tool for measuring babies growth anyway!)

At my 28 wk scan my fundal height measurement was 5cm too short so I was referred for a urgent scan and the baby measured fine. She was simply lying in a transverse position when the fundal height was measured which affected the measurement.

Like you I was very anxious and worried but I now look back on the scan and think I was lucky to have had the opportunity to see the baby again. All in all it was very reassuring.

Please try not to worry (easier said than done I know) but I am sure it will be fine
