Hepatitis Vaccine for Newborn?

I was curious if there were any risks to having your newborn get the Hepatitis Shot right after birth?

In the US my Labor and Delivery ward said that it is recommended that all newborns get the hepatitis shot after birth.

Anyone with more info?
are you having your newborn given the vaccine right after birth?

If I remember right with my older kids I decided to wait and let the pediatrician do it a week or two later because I didn't want them getting stuck so much so soon after being born after all the trauma of birth. I honestly can't see why a week or two makes a difference anyhow.

Ok...Do your research..Is your newborn sexually active? No...How long does the vaccine last? about 13-14 years...When will they be sexually active? Who knows..Is this really something a newborn needs? I just don't see it..So, to answer your question, I think it's sickening that they give this to a newborn.

Either way, any one of us can get it through blood..Same with anything..Is it worth doing still? In your opinion, with your Dad, probably..In mine, it's just not.

You have to look at it in different ways too. Some families have this and some don't. Valid point ladies. But remember for 13/14 years the child won't always be in your home. So you may want to get it before they are out and about on their own. But as long as they are with you and in your care 100% of the time waiting won't hurt anything. Do you have a peditrician for your baby yet? If so this is something you may want to discuss with them before the baby is born.

We are having it done but it's because we have 3 school age children and who knows what all their friends have had. But this is a personal decision. Make sure you are informed and you and your baby will be just fine
