How long do they let you go before they induce you?

I thought it was 2 weeks but read yesterday that its 10 days.. is that the maximum they will let you go over now? Would they ever induce you before 10 days overdue? Also.. what is the difference between a sweep and being induced? Trying to work out what is the longest period of time before little woman arrives... have a feeling she is going to have me waiting as long as possible xx

With My first i went 9days over and was lucky enough that labour started naturally. but i was booked in to be induced the next day so i would have been 10days overdue 2 be induced. But MW did say they will wait untill 14days, i suppose its up to ur MW and what she thinks will be best for u.

well with a sweep all the MW does is seperates the membranes from the cervix, i had one but it didnt work for me, as i can take a few to get things going. but being induced they use the tablets and gels which contains the same chemicals that we produce when we start labour naturally.

hope this helps xx

for me i went into labour on the 14th day although i would of been induced later that day, they should give you a scan and check the fluid around baby if everything is ok they will leave you however i do think it depends on the person/midwife/hospital

here it can be anywhere between 10-14 days over when they induce you i was going to be induced at 13 days over last time round but ds make his appearance in the early hours of that morning, im hoping they will do a sweep for me on wed if i make it to wed and then a couple more before i get to iduction time and i dont want to wait till 14 days over as that puts me being induced on a day that is very important for one of my friends and not only would we miss it but other friends would have to miss it too so they could look after ds

NICE guidelines state that a woman should be offered induction by 14 days over. Some areas offer it at 10 days but a lot, like mine, wait until 14 days over.

I was always told it was 2 weeks past your due date, but this can change from place ot place, so you need to ask at your local hospital. I've heard that mine (I'm living abroad), is 10 days, but I haven't heard it from them directly, so I will assume 2 weeks and not be disappointed

Although, it also depends on the risk you've had in your pregnancy, your symptoms towards the end (e.g. if you're showing signs of pre-eclampsia), and how the baby is measuring too.
