Born at 24 weeks...

What are the odds and prognosis??? I know all babies are different but please share your knowledge and experiences...

Can they usually stop labour at this stage? How would they do it?

I'm sorry for gate crashing ladies... I posted here accidentally but figured I'd just leave it (mods feel free to move it if needed)
I've been sick and was in the hospital dehydrated the other night, haven't felt much better since and have been having weird discharge, (honestly it's like my mucous plug was with my daughter) and it's been yellowish/ light greenish (so sorry tmi) and my back has been awfully achy and crampy like with my daughter (had back labour)

Please don't yell at me... I thought I had a bit of bleeding almost a week ago now and to check I had a feel of my cervix... it felt different than what has been normal for me... I checked for bleeding again tonight (thinking that was turning the cm a bit yellowy) and had a quick feel and it's REALLY puffy, softish and kinda open...

I can't do anything tonight as I'm home alone and my daughter is sleeping. I'm not having active cramping so I'm going to go to bed and call the pregnancy room at the hospital in the morning.

Just thought I'd put an explanation behind my questions...

I think it is about 40-50%, and those who do survive often have problems. I suppose it depends on what happens. There are a few babies here born at 24 weeks in the preemie forum, and while they may have some issues (hearing, speech, physical, etc), they are alive! I can't imagine how difficult it is to see your baby spend months in NICU.

hello there babies born that premature have alot better odds now than they use to like the other response said around 40-50% ! Some have issues that continue through life others come out normal its all in gods hands i suppose! And yes they can stop labor most of the time by fluids and medications. There are several meds. They can try if the first one doesn't stop it right away! Also they can give you the steroids to develop the babies lungs and if they can keep you from delivering for around 24-48 hours it will increase the chances of the little one surving! Wishing you well and good luck hopefully this helps!

my cousins baby was born at 27 weeks though the doctors think she had stopped growing at 24 weeks, She weighed in at 1lb 4oz i think. She spent about 3 months is hospital but now is a healthy 2 year old with no problems. Though as the other girls have said all babies are different, but you definately need to ring the hospital and get checked out

there is things that can be done whether they work or not is a different matter but the only way to do that is by getting checked out and you really should with a very early baby any concerns at all phone them xx
